My pharmacist seems to be having a hard time locating this vitamin....has anyone else used something else instead.  I goggled it and an online store came up called Well.ca, the drug is out of stock but shipping is free in Canada and the Cical is only $11.00...any andvise is appreciated

Hey Angela

Some of the gals on Ontario forum do order from Well.ca so I think they are all legit.

I am not familiar with the vitamin you are looking for - I take Bariatric Advantage Calcium Vitamin- a company in Montreal used to sell and ship them but no longer is the supplier- so you have to go with the Bariatric Advantage website to order now. You can also purchase them from Bariatric Choice's website.

There are other specific Bariatric Vitamins available too- I dont necessarily believe they are better - I just have always taken the Bariatric Advantage so its habit now.

I have also purchased Citracel Petites but they would be for further out as they are not chewable - even as petites they are a good size . Also I need to take more of them to get in all my calcium.

Knowing that you need a chewable and need the vitamin D with it to aid in absorption - the pharmacist should be able to recommend an alternative.

Hi Angela. I take Calcium Carbonate that I buy at Cosco for 6 dollars for a zillion of them. I take 3 a day. 2 in the morning and one after supper. I take vit b12 a no name brand of centrum forte vit B 100 complex ( this one is my choice and not recommended by my nut). I tried to take vit D3 but it caused me such insominia that I stopped. My blood work when it was done 3 months ago was absolutely perfect with my cholestrol actually a little on the  low side .  I also take Swiss brand HRT for the hot flashes that have come back with a vengence since I have lost weight. .

I am not telling you what to take, I'm just telling you what I take.

Just wondering why the carbonate- we dont as RNY patients absorb it - only Citrate and Elemental Calcium.

Have you had a baseline bone density scan done so you can monitor your levels on a yearly basis - I know you know as a nurse that later down the road if we were to be calcium deficient our body will leach what it stores from our bones- it starts with our teeth which is not a pleasant thought.

There are a couple regulars on OH RNY forum that are far out - had surgery way back when supplements were not pushed- and they have experienced calcium deficiency- very difficult to bring back up once you get into a bad way.

Just thought I would toss it out there so you can do some more research.

Yeah Deb. I had a brain fart. I did mean calcium citrate not carbonate. I was having a DUH day. LOL. I had a bone density test done last September. My Mom had osteoperosis really bad so I have been getting bone scans done regularly since I was 45 years old. So far everything is perfect with exception of my injured back. That will never get better and now arthritis has begun to set into the injured areas. Future looks rosy but at least I shouldn't have to worry about osteoporosis.  Thank you for catching that error so quickly. I would not have wanted to give Angela any wrong info. :)

Sorry, I do not have any advice on the vitamin but I do order my BeneProtein from Well.ca and they are a very good company to deal with, hopefully they will not be out of stock for too long!!!

I actually just finished my first can and placed an order for a second.  I am definetly starting to notice a difference, I don't have the energy I would like but I'm blaming alot of that on late nights and little sleep...LOL.  I've been experimenting with it by putting it in different things.  I put it on my cheerios , my oatmeal....stuff like that.  Becareful when it comes to coffee though.....the first day I received it I took it to work with me and made my coffee.  I'm not sure if it was too hot or what but as soon as I put the powder in, it went all clumpy.....YUCKY!!!!!  No matter what I did I couldn't stir it in, I've tried sprinkling it in my coffee slowly and it still clumped.  Now when I put it in a Tim Horton's coffee it mixes in fine (alot cooler than coffee I make at home) so I don't know if its the heat thing or what but I avoid putting it in coffee made at home now
