New drug and weight gain

You guys all know I have a dickie back right? So I saw a neurologist about my worsening leg pain and he suggested Lyrica. My family doc gave me a script and a weeks trial of them. I took them for 7 days and spent two of the 7 nights wide awake, I mean the entire night and at the end of the week when I weighed myself I was back up to 189 EEEKKK!.
 
I dug out my CPS and read up on the drug and found among other things one of the unpleasant side effects is weight gain. Now the dilemma... this drug has been shown to greatly alleviate nerve root pain but I certainly do not want weight gain. The most frequent side effect was drowsiness but leave it to me to get insomnia.
 

I don't think I will take this drug. I can't afford any weight gain. SUCKS!!! I frequently have strange side effects from drugs. I could nevver become a drug addict God only knows what kind of reaction I would get. LOL

P.S. I took my last pill last Tuesday morning and today my weight is back down to 183

I did a stint of Lyrica when it first came out years back -for my back/fibro- it helped for a while but boy did I pack on the pounds with it and I the drowsiness for me lasted all day- I think I slept a year away of my life! My other side effect was vibrating hands and feet - kinda like the nerve thing Fibro can sometimes  give ya but very intense and disturbing. So I got off it this was about a year before my WLS surgery.

Last summer my Mom tried it and same thing big weight gain and she retained fluid so bad in her lower extrem. it was scary - she had to stop taking it also.

I have read on the boards some people do well with it but I didnt find it did anything but make my ass bigger! lol

Thank you for the feedback Deb. I am not going to get the script filled. I can not afford weight gain now after all I have gone through to lose. I find it makes me feel nauseated most of the day too.  Naw, I'll wait till something else comes along.
