Having a hard time refocusing
Since my surgery was postponed until April 14th I feel lost...I am trying to get back on my optifast but am struggling. I did it for 4 weeks now I have to wait another 6 weeks to surgery. When I was talking to Dr Christou's assistant she really didnt create any urgency for me to lose more weight. I need to be under 400 lbs, which was 10 lbs away last Friday but I bet I am up this week and I really want to try to get down to 375 before surgery ...just for my own goal. Last week she said have 2-3 shakes and a sensible supper, yesterday she said stick to the optifast and enjoy my Easter supper. Any advise???
Angela
Hey girly
I can only imagine how this rollercoaster ride is playing with your focus.
I know you know this but I am gonna tell ya anyway - and I am saying this with all the love in the world - no judgement just concern.
Angela you need to lose as much weight as you can before going into surgery - I know you did it for 4 weeks and lost a lot of weight but this is your job hon- you have to be in the very best shape you can possibly be going into your surgery - and that means to keep on shrinking that liver - to take off as much weight as you possibly safely are able to - the healthier you are going to be for it - you do your part and I know its damn hard - damn frustrating and you must be so overwhelmed with your surgery being postponed.
Dr Christou will be doing his part and as difficult as it to be on liquids and such a limited diet - this part of the job is up to you and you have worked to damn hard to come this far and not keep going - I know you can do this -
ANGELA YOU CAN DO HARD STUFF- YOU CAN DO DIFFICULT - YOU CAN - YOU WANT THIS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW AND YOU ARE NOT GOING TO JEAPORDIZE YOUR SURGERY!
You come here and vent - you tell family and friends buckle your seatbelts this is gonna be a bumpy ride - I need support.
I think communicating with the dietician again would be a good idea get her to give you a caloric number or menu suggestions for what supper should be- sensible meals well we both know none of us got here doing too much sensible when it comes to food- personally I would need to know some strong guidelines.
If you re-introduce to many simple carbs your body will start craving more - you need to continue this momentum not have to start all over again- we all know how quickly a few lbs can come back on and hon you dont want to be in any position where you could be delayed.
Do an old fashioned countdown calendar to your big day - be kind to yourself and get in the habit now of giving yourself non food rewards for your hard work and effort. Tell hubby he must treat you like a Queen and make sure that when friends and family ask is there anything they can do you ask for help!
If you feel your mental health starting to slip any bit - please be sure to get to your doctor - as you know I can attest to how quickly things spiral out of control once the mental gets down...... going into this surgery in your best mental state is very important in recovery.
I am so proud of you and have all the confidence that you will be triumphant and I promise that in your new post op life you will still have another Easter Dinner - dont do any last meal gigs - eventually you can eat anything post op - you just work it into plan- all in due time. Food is just not worth it- it isnt - we all know it but it has such a hold on us!
So its time to fight hon and you fight like you would for any of your loved ones- you deserve this and its finally your time!
Fb me anytime!

Hi Angela, I wondered how you were doing. I can't even imagine how hard this must be for you. As Deb said please please stay away from the simple carbs, The more you eat of those the more of them you will crave. You know how hard it was to lose these pounds you have lost but I am sure I don't have to tell you how fast they come back on. Remember that liver of yours. It needs to be as small as possible. 6 weeks sound like a long way but it will be here before you know it. The last thing you want is for Dr. C. to have to stop after starting surgery because the liver was not small enough.
I did not come here to lecture you. you have a perfectly sound mind and you know all of this so let me just remind you of what's waiting on the other side of this surgery.
I have lost over 100 pounds and am hoping to have plastics later this year. I have skinny legs. I can reach EVERYWHERE on my body. All of this and lots more awaits you too my dear. Just keep away from the food for a little bit longer. If you want to scream, swear, grumble **** and moan or whatever you need to do, Come here and let loose. I am sure we all understand your frustration. I'd be ready to kill somebody!!
I agree with Deb. make yourself an advent calendar and into each pocket, put a piece of paper with something you really want to do when you lose a little bit of weight. Like put on shoes or put on socks, Some little thing to remind yourself why you are going through all of this.
