What happened to me?

This is so weird. At noon today I ate a bowl of rice crispies with a minute amount of milk. I have eaten this several time before with no problem but today I dumped on it. No biggie. I have dumped before and usually feel fine in a couple of hours or so. Well today I dumped not the worse I ever dumped just felt nauseated and sleepy. I had a few hot flashes. The thing was, I was weird all afternoon. I felt like I was really really stoned on powerful pain medication. I could not wake up completely. The phone rang and I really couldn't make any sense of what the caller said. Right now I still am not sure who called or what they wanted. I tried to call my son to invite him to supper but when he answered the phone I wasn't making sense so he said he would come down to see what I wanted because I wasn't making enough sense on the phone. I fell back to sleep after I called him. I wasn't feeling nauseated then but I just could wake myself up completely.

Is this normal? This is a first for me. I have had dumping anywhere from mild to really severe. This dump wasn't really all that severe by comparison to others I have had.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I posted this on mainboard too to see if I can get some answers.

Just my opinion - it was probably one of those "perfect storms" type of thing. Not perfect for you though. Probably 2 or 3 factors played into this going on with you today - it will be hard to sort out exactly what it was. Much like the people who come into ER  - hard to sort out at times exactly WHAT the *ell is going on. Hope you feel better in any case. Take Care!

Are you positive it was due to the dumping?  That concerns me...my dad had a stroke a while back and he made no sense like that as well, if it continues you should go to the hospital

Hi
You need to consider a number of things with this dumping  could your sugars have dropped low and you were experincing low blood sugar? If you feel this again I would suggest that you make an appt with your doc , if is really bad go to the ER. When was the last time you had blood work.

I know Mary is an RN, but this sounds concerning to me. How are you feeling now? Are you still experiencing confusion?

No more confused than I usually am right now. LOL. The stoned effect seem to have left me about 5 hours after onset. I have been fine ever since. Funny the first thing to cross my mind was "OMG, I'm having a stroke but no one understands me"  Then I fell asleep. I called my son who though I had lost my mind because he could not make sense of what I was talking about. I am fine now though. Someone on mainboard say it may be hypoglycemia. Could be. If it was then I feel so sorry for diabetics who experience this and everyone thinks they are drunk. Scary ugly feeling. I have placed my glucometer in the drawer of my coffee table so if this happen again and I have enough sense I will check my sugar levels. I wonder if I am hypoglycemic, if eating something sweet would help?

Thank you all for your concern. Can't kill me , many have tried, all have failed.  Mom used to say  " God isn't ready for you  and the devil hasn't got the nerves to put up with you." Maybe she's right. LOL

Update:  someone on Mainboard said it may have been reactive hypoglycemia. I looked it up online and all of the synptoms fit what I had this afternoon. This happened once before. Last spring when I dumped so bad on raisin bran cereal and drove into town. I began dumping and was falling asleep trying to drive home. Must have been the same thing then. Guess I will have to stop eating cereal altogether. I've never eaten Raisin bran after that episode. I ate rice krispies twice before today but I will not be eating them again either. If I had been driving today, I would not have made it home. Either God ot the devil would have gotten me, ready for me or not. LOL

Yeah lows are no fun at all. Confusion is my first sign. I usually notice that I can't make a very simple decision....what I call a non-decision, like should I go to the bathroom!! LOL Literally! The next sign if I ignore the first one because I am busy, is a mega hot flash, then weakness.

Glad you got over the episode without it being anything major.

My Mom is diabetic, and she has gone through this twice, once while staying with me.  Its kinda scary...I gave her orange juice, and when that didn't kick in in 30 mins, I had to resort to her "last resort", which was a non-diet cola.  That seems to do the trick for her.  It doesn't take much, usually not even half a can, but what can you do when you've had RNY?  Wouldn't that really cause problems with dumping due to all the sugar in it??

Glad you are feeling better!!
