Update - Maybe approved after all...

Ugh, what a fight this has been...looks like I may get approved after all for WLS.  The first time the military health care denied me, they got my BMI wrong, now, it looks like they will OK it, but I have to see a specialist in Internal Medicine first.  (Part of their criteria for qualification)

I haven't posted here in quite a while.  The first decision of "denied" was hard to take, and I kinda of pulled back, really discouraged, tho my doc fully supports me and resubmitted my paperwork.  I've even considered quitting my job for a month so that NB medicare would look after it.  Normally, anything medicare will pay for, the military health care will pay for as well, we just have slightly different channels and approvals required...

My info session was last August, my consent signed in Sept, but as of yet, no surgery date, due to doubt on who will pay for it...Others who did their info session with me have all had their surgery already.  I'm trying really hard to take heart and be patient, but its so hard.  It must be for a reason, maybe because my hubby is away for a year???  Goodness knows it would be hard to have anything extra on my plate right now, but I'm game!!  LOL

I took a boo at some of your posts, everyone seems to be doing well and survived the holidays.  You are all such an inspiration and encouragement.  My time will come too, I need to have faith!  Thanks for letting me vent!!

Hang in there Laura. When I was going through the medicare channels, the system was changing, so was always riding on the tail end of things it seemed. My tiurn did come eventually and so will yours.

That would have been a time, my inital referral went in before Medicare, but then it was 5 yrs before I got a call...by then it was already in the system as being approved on that part.  Dr B wanted to use my medicare number ****ep it active just in case) but I think thats considered fraud if I do use it while covered by another plan, and then I wouldn't get time off or any meds covered afterwards either.

Its been a roller coaster ride for sure.  Good to know these things dont' just happen to me???
Thanks Jet!!!

I waited 4 years and never did see the specialist here in Fredericton. The doctor in Saint John has a shorter waiting list. There may be others in NB with short waiting times.

I wish I could pick and choose...lol...they sent in the referral form for a Dr McMullen, here in Freddy.  I think its just to check on my insides as I haven't seen one since 99 when I was so sick after my daughter was born.  I was seriously ill, spent 4 out of my 6 months on materity leave in the hospital.   If he gives his ok, then I'm ok for approval (I hope!!!)  To be honest, I'm not sure what he will need to do...or ask me...hmmmm...

I referred to a Mc...something...a female. If you had recently lost any weight at all, she would refuse to make a recommendation to Medicare. McGibbons was her name, I think.  If the military is paying, perhaps you will go to the front of the line like the self-pay do.

Hi - sorry to butt in here...but.....you mentioned  "the doctor in SJ".
Who would that be (if you don't mind me asking)???
Is he a Bariatric specialist?
Thanks -

Oh gosh, I don't remember his name....it started with a D I thin****ep think Dr Dorin (door-in), but that isn't it...Dorian maybe??. He has a specialty in Internal medicine- a more narrow specialty than more internist....hope that helps.

I checked in the Yellow pages.....could it have been Dr John Dornan?  He's listed under  Endocrinilogy & Internal Medicine?  There's also a Dr Sean Dolan who is listed under Hematology & Internal Medecine.  Thanks for the info.

It would be the endocrinologist. I don't know anyuone who waited as long as did for the endocrinologist, unless they were waiting for Dr McGibbons. I didn't dare lose any weight befpre seeing her because I knew that she wouldn't recommend me to Medicare. Thank goodness we don't have to go throught that foolishness any more.
