is it normal not to lose weight before first fill
Everyone is different, but if you read the Lap Band board, you will see that most people lose little or nothing before the first fill. When you are healing your body can hang on to the calories, & you are (usually) less active. The effects of anesthetic lasts long after you leave the hospital. I don't know if it effect weight loss, but the whole procedure shocks your system. In the months after surgery I commented many times that I lost weight faster before the surgery. After your fill, you may or may not feel restriction. Some people only ever need one fill and have restriction for a long, long time......but don't count on it. Most of us feel restriction for a couple of weeks or less. With each fill, the band works a little longer. My surgery was in February and I was in the green zone in July. The band will not stop you from eating, you have to measure your food and make good choices. Even with restriction, you can eat a lot of food if you eat it slowly and chew it well. YOU have to make the band work for you... it will not do it alone. When you are in the green zone, the band allows the food you eat to signal your brain that you are full on little food. You can still eat, you can gain weight. I have lost lots of weight before, but the band has made it easier, it has not done it for me. When I make bad choices, when I don't measure my food, don't drink enough, or don't exercise, my weight loss stalls. Sorry if I sound like I am lecturing, I just want you to have the information. Follow the rules, and be patient and the band will work for you.
