Ah my dear, you are right that it won’t be easy but it will get better eventually. If you’re anything like me, you may cry your eyes out periodically, hate every TV commercial that involves food, be depressed a bit, make your significant other feel guilty for eating, drive by a restaurant and smell it a mile away, and be super moody. I also had headaches for the first few days but I never felt nauseas.
The bottom line is, after surgery & recovery, it won’t seem so bad. It’s like childbirth, it’s a pain at the moment but you forget about it afterwards. I realize this may not give you any relief right now, but keep your chin up because it will get better! Just knowing it will get better kept me going the whole time!
PLUS February is the shortest month of the year!
In regards to water, I drank loads of water during my liquid phase but I was never instructed to only drink when thirsty. You may want to call your surgical team and ask if you can have crystal light or sugar free gum during your liquid phase since every surgical team is different.
Each time you’re frustrated, post here about it! Get it out of your system! If you want to cry, just do it! The liquid diet for me was like detoxing from a serious addiction but now I’m the happiest person on earth.

For me it was Day 3 that knocked me on my @ss. Believe it or not it will get easier. I had my moments when I wanted to knock everyone out for eating. I had to volunteer at a hockey game and every time I turned around someone was shoving nachos, pizza, hot dogs, fries, etc. into their mouths. If nothing else you'll gain some perspective on how much people really do eat!!
Monica and I had the same surgeon - we were told to drink drink drink (water, Crystal Lite, and 4 Diabetic Boosts/day). I didn't chew gum (I"m not a big gum chewer) - but Monica did, I think. Eventually the "agony" of it all will dissipate; every day brings you closer to your new reality. Think of it all as detox.
Good luck!!!!!

I would call the dietitian and check of 3 shakes a day and tell her about your stomach pain. I certainly didn't experience pain- growling tummy from lack of solid food, but no pain.
