I dunno... maybe I am just a hopeless case.  I had my surgery on NOv 6th.. Did great.  Lost 15 lbs presurgery.  Then lost another 20 afterwards.  I have a total of 40 off.  I had a fill on Dec 22nd and since then, I lost 3 lbs.. WTH.. I dunno.  I cannot eat chicken or steak..  No matter what.  Just cannot pass it.  I do get quit a few blocks these days but I think Im not chewing like I should.  Im stuck.  Is my body telling me hold up for a bit?  Or am I just not putting the right things in my body.  I DONT WANT VEGGIES.. Im depressed.  I could sit and eat a whole box of cookies to myself right now.  I feel good.  Went from a size 24 to a 16 so far.  Started at 288 and now Im between 248 and 250.  But Im fustrated.  I just want success and I have lost my way.
thanks.. just needed to vent a bit.. Maybe I will try to get some sleep now.  Night LOL

Well I agree it is hard to learn to eat healthy, but hang in and fight the urge to splurge. Besides you don’t want to have a dumping episode (it sucks) I just haft to fight through the urge to eat something off the prescribed food list (Only 7 weeks out from WLS) Look how far you have come. I hope to be as successful as you have done Joe G

You are not a hopeless case sweetie. You are an early bandster and you are still in your learning curve. It took me a few months to truly figure out how I can make the band work for me.  Everyone’s experience with the band and restriction are different so listening to your own body is the key to your success.

For example, I could NOT eat a full box of cookies by myself; I get stuck for sure or feel like I’m about to explode. I could maybe have one or two and that would be it BUT I am able to eat chicken, usually without any problems (I have to chew, chew, chew, and chew and take small bites of course, as with most meats). I find cooking them in a slow cooker or dipping them in sauce helps.

I find when you get “stuck", for me it means my body is trying to tell me something (unless I am eating something like bread or steak because these two things are just too hard to get down for me). When I get stuck on something, I know it’s because I’m piggybacking my bites and/or eating too fast and/or taking too big of a bite. It could also be because I’m stressed or angry or not considering the time of day.

There are certain times of day for me where my band is tighter than others. I can’t eat solids in the mornings, and if I’m stressed or angry, I need to step away from food because there is no way it will go down. If my emotions aren’t where they should be, doesn’t matter what I’m eating, could be water, my band will automatic react and tighten.

If I’m super tight, usually drinking a hot beverage/soup loosens me up, so in the mornings I always drink my coffee first, even before taking a pill because nothing goes down. Once I have my coffee I’m good to go!

Learning how your band works is crucial but it can take some time because you have to listen to your body/band because everyone’s band is so different. You mentioned you only had one fill so it could be a restriction issue also since most folks do not get proper restriction at first fill.

The band needs to be “worked" in order for it to function. It’s a 50/50 battle. For me, it was a huge learning experience and took a good 4 months. Only now do I feel I truly know my band. Also, plateaus are normal so this may be what you’re experiencing. I plateau every three weeks.  To get out of it, I do liquids for two or three days. This starts my weight loss again.  I have been plateau’ing now for two weeks so I was on liquids yesterday & today and already I’ve lost a couple pounds.

You have lost 40 pounds since November so I think you are doing fabulous by the way. I’ve been banded since July and you have already lost half of what I’ve lost for far, so don’t be so hard on yourself because I was at your weight loss amount after 3 months too.

Keep you chin up, don’t have cookies in your house if that’s a temptation for you, and most importantly, listen to your band. My best friend who has been banded in 2005 gave me that advice “Listen to your band" and it was the best advice anyone could have given me.  I began noticing patterns and knowing my band has made my journey about 100 times easier.

Let me know if you have questions, I’m happy to help in any way I can!

You want depressed?  I went in for my second fill and was told that in the 6 weeks they last saw me I'd lost POINT 6 ...that's 0.6 .... pounds.

I fuh-reaked out.  It didn't seem right.  But since then (4 weeks ago) I've lost 15 pounds.  Go figure.  Your body does what it does and does NOT follow our brain's agenda!

If you feel good (and why wouldn't you - look at your success!!) do NOT eat those cookies, my friend.  Cookies are the snacks of the DEVIL!  :)

What I've caught on to in the last few weeks is the following: small bites, and chew the bejeepers out of everything you put in your mouth.  Eat your protein and veggies first, then try to make a dent in your carbs.  Small plates.  No drinking 30 minutes before, non during, and until 30 minutes after your meals.  Exercise!!  Low-cal snacks.  I know we are TOLD all of this this, but sometimes it takes a while to realize that hey yeah - this is the best way!

If I get that stuck feeling after only a couple of bites I realize that I need to chew, and sloooow down.  Eating fast is a bad habit I have - it's hard to unlearn old habits.

You DO have success.  Be kind to yourself! :)

I HEAR YA ABOUT THE SLOWING DOWN THING.  AS SOON AS I GET ANY KIND OF SENSATION THAT THINGS ARE NOT GOING DOWN AS THEY SHOULD I PUT DOWN MY LITTLE FORK AND WAIT IT OUT.  I HAVEN'T HAD A BAD STUCK YET, ONLY FEELINGS THAT SAY "H-E-L-L-L-L-O - WAKEY,WAKEY  - A LITTLE SLOWER PLEASE!"  BAD HABITS ARE SO HARD TO UNLEARN AND I GUESS THAT IS WHY WE HAVE THE BAND - TO REMIND US! LOL
