Other than the lap band are there any other bariatric surgery options covered by medicare?

Hi!  Our Dr. B here in Moncton does the band, gastric bypass and gastric sleeve (which is new to his surgery options).  He is a great Doctor and I find the team at the George Dumont hospital to be excellent.  These three options are covered by Medicare.

Hey there I just found out Dr. Savoie is going to be starting the sleeve also. Good luck in your search for health!

Thanks for the info.

I called Dr. Savoie and I have been on the list since March 09. They are currently working on the November 08.

Dr.Savoie will be starting the sleeve in March of this year. He currently only has 1 day of clinic per week and only performs 2 surgeries per week.

It seems like it will be a long wait but I am glad that I found out that it will be a long process rather than getting my hopes up and being disappointed.

Now to study all about the sleeve....

Good luck with your search. The sleeve forum under surgeries on here could shed some light but from what I can see it is a very promising surgery as well and when they make the stomache smaller all of, or alot of your hunger hormone "ghrelin" goes with it. I also researched that surgery but wanted something a bit more agressive still and chose the RNY.
