Angela, you must have an amazing sense of relief!  If would be scared about the debt - I hate debt.  But you are doing the right thing.  It is so hard to believe that our government won't help you out in this.  Tell your family to make sure those shakes are in a non breakable/non spillable container - you will want every drop!!!  LOL  Keep your sense of humour - you know - fat and jolly - that's us!!  LOL!

Take care and God bless you - I'll keep you in my prayers.

This might sound silly...but what is Gastric Bypass?  Is it another term for RNY? DS?Lapband?

Edited to say : Never Mind....I googled it...its the RNY...or at least that is the most common gastric bypass.

I guess all weight loss surgs could be termed Gastric Bypass ???

Yes Gastric Bypass is the Roux en Y.  Are you on Dr B's list as well?  I hear Dr S may not be doing DS anytime soon.  I was set on DS as well but after a ton of research, I found that it just would not happen anytime soon if at all in Canada.  Cover all your bases

Yes...I am on Dr B's list since 2006.  Even if he calls, I am still holding out for the DS surgery with Dr Savoie.  He will be doing them...as soon as he gets funding for more staff....its the surgery I feel is the best for me.

PS....good luck Angela...several folks on here have the RNY and are doing fabulous...got their health back, and look amazing to boot :)

I really wanted the DS surgery as well but unfortunately at 432lbs I can't wait any longer.  I have high hopes that the RNY will give me some life back.  I so wi**** wasnt so difficult or long to get the surgery we need.

I will be here holding your hand and running along side of you the entire race- you are not alone!  You can do this !

love ya
deb

You go Angela!  Don't take your health for granted!

I waited 7 years for surgery and in that time I have developed diabetes, high blood pressure, a faulty knee and had two heart attacks.  I wish I had done what your doing.  I have wasted years of my life, and I can't get them back.

You can do it!  Don't worry about the money, all of us will live with debt until we die, so shake that part off and do it!

I am pretty sure you can still have the DS done after Roux en Y . Some people who get the DS done have the VGS first before the DS?? This might be an option!  But Congrats to you...

Talk to you soon Stephanie
