Update :)
Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas.
Just a quick update to let you all know that my daughter Meghan has been officially banded. She was done on the 16th of Dec and we are home and settled for almost a week now. We were a bit panicked because they had her all prepped for surgery and then Dr S came in and said they didn't have a bed for her so they may have to cancell. I could have puked right there. She as you all know had been on boost for 2 weeks and had stuck to it. Now the thought of having to go through that again was quite defeating. After a few minutes he asked me if I was staying at the pavillioin and I said that we had indeed stayed the night before and I had the room again that night. so he said he I promised NOT to sneak her home and stay the night at the pavillion he would let her stay there to rest up and go home in the morning. After a few tense minutes, she was off to the OR.
She has had only a bit of pain and is tollerating it well. Mostly the gas pain we all had. He did not use staples on her but rather surgical glue and a special tape which it great that we dont have to worry about another trip up in 2 weeks to have them removed. Another difference between Drs S and B is, Meg was only on clear fluids that day. The nurse in recovery told her she could have pudding or yogurt in 2 days and only needed to stay on full fluids for 1 day. She has to remain on soft food or mushies for a month though. No meat or raw veggies or fruits for a month.
For any of you that are having surgery in Bathurst, it would be well worth your while to use the UCT Pavillion services. They only charge $10 a night for the patient and $25 a night for family members. The rooms are like little hotel rooms only with no tv and 2 single beds. I found them spotless. You have your own full bathroom as well. The beds were a bit hard but after the long ride up and the day in the hospital I had no problem getting to sleep. they have a TV room with some really comfy couches and a kitchenette. Since Meg had to stay the second night, they refunded me all my money for the stay as well. The pavillion is just in the hosptial parking lot and they give you a keycard to access the hospital in the back way and the key also give you access to the staff (free) parking lot. The don't take reservations, so it's first come first serve, but they have 12 rooms and both nights it was only us and one other couple there. You will need to go to the admitting desk at the hospital to pay and request your room.
