Why aren't I loosing weight?

Today is one week since banding, and I am bloated and can hardly fit into my clothes.

I know I am not drinking enough as my urine is deep yellow, and I am still having lots of clear liquids.  What I do eat:  broth, juices, cream of wheat, tea, occasional milk shake, apple sauce.  I know it's not working!

Help!  What am I missing?

Hi, Chrissy -
You are *only* one week out!  You're probably retaining fluid.  Your body has experienced quite a shock.  Don't freak out just YET lol!

No worries! It takes awhile for your body to adapt to this new lifestyle. It has gone through a lot in the last few weeks, a liquid diet, surgery, more liquids, etc. Your body is no doubt in shock and it will be for awhile, this was my experience.

From surgery date to my 1st fill (6 weeks) I didn’t lose that much weight. I don’t recall the exact amount, but it was something like 10 pounds or so.

Don’t fret, the weight WILL come off! Remember you just went through a surgery and it is normal to feel bloated! Anesthesia does some tricky things!

Keep following the Dr.’s orders and the scale will go down in no time! One thing I found works the best for me is to not obsess about it. I usually just weight once a week, if even that.  I prefer it that way because the longest I wait, the bigger the result.

Good luck and feel free to message me anytime if you have questions!

Oh and by the way, I know that it’s hard right now, but drinking liquids is a MUST and will help you in the long run. Always try to sip on something, your body needs it. Even now, I sip on water every minute of the day.

Thanks for the good advise gals!  I guess all I have been thinking about is the number on the scale and nothing else.  I felt like I was doing this all wrong.  You see before & after photos and it shows people lost 35 lbs. a week after surgery, and I figured that would be me.

I will relax.  I will drink my water.

I will be calm!

Thanks!

35 lbs in a week? Maybe with RNY but not ever ever ever with the band!

omg.  35 in one week.  HA!  Try 35 in 16 weeks!

Oh my, I’m not sure who lost 35 pounds in a week, but certainly not anyone from this board. Even my results aren’t very typical and I’m considered a very fast loser (73 pounds in 5 months)

Most people lose slowly with this surgery. Like Krista said above, maybe with RNY, but never ever with the band.

What you are missing is you are healing from your operation. This is 100% normal. 100%.

You will also gain a couple of pounds when  your bowls fill up after eating mushies. I only lost a few pounds in the first few weeks. This part of the journey is about healing, not losing weight. They don't want you to gain, but they don't expect your to lose right now. Most people gain a pound or two between the surgery and the first fill.
As for all the advise you are getting, I didn't see anything about protein- it so important to get your 60 mg of protein everyday.
