To fill or not to fill?

I"m currently on the territory of not knowning whether I need a fill or not. My next appointment with Dr. Savoie and his team is on January 4th. I had one on Dec 21st but I had to cancel due to the holidays.

It seems that after each fill I get, for the first 2-3 weeks, I feel like I have finally hit my sweet spot and that I won't need another fill for awhile, and then my band gets looser. I imagine this is due to the weight loss, but it is quite annoying.

It seems i'm chasing some kind of rainbow here. All I want is the restriction I have 2 weeks after a fill to last but it never does. Three weeks after a fill, I find myself eating a bit more and a bit faster. I find myself falling back into old habits!

To be honest, I don't even know if I need a fill. My portions are okay. Sometimes they are worst than others but I'm losing constantly...so when is enough, enough?

How do we even know what restriction is? Should I suck it up and give it a break for awhile, or do I add another 0.5cc to see if I can reach the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?

This restriction thing is truly a mystery huh?

Hey -
You know I'm not one to log in here very often, but you asked a genuine question that I think deserves an answer.

I think that getting your fill whenever you can is crucial.  I guess I understand the "chasing the rainbow" scenario even though I've only had one fill myself.  But that's what it's all about until we are finally at that point where we know we don't need any more fills.

It's annoying for sure - the Lapband is a really challenging surgical option b/c we still rely so much on our own strength, will power, and determination.

But you're doing an awesome job!!

What you are describing is exactly what I went through. After a fill, you stoma is often swollen as a reaction to the change. As a result, you feel restriction that doesn't last. They can't go faster or the swelling could make it so you can't even drink. Also you are right about losing weight around you stomach...this loosens the band. I had surgery in February and didn't hit my sweet spot until July and that lasted until late August when the flight to Europe screwed that up. Most of us chase the rainbow but we do find the gold eventually. I wouldn't decide about the fill now- wait until a couple of days before and call the nurse if you are having doubts.
