Hi all
I have my surgery date for next week but only got the date last week , I started on meditrim and walking at lunch to keep my mind off food I have only lost 4 pounds I go for a weigh in Friday morning and I am sure I will be down a coupl of more but I am really really anxious about this whole liver thing.

I had gained about 6 pounds since my initial consult at my last appt so did my liver expand that much more and now it is just at what it was? I do not want to have an open surgery .I really want this but I really anxious. I tried calling the clinic today and the dietician but I was not able to actully speak with anyone.

Don't worry they won't change to open. They may postpone you, that's all. I gained 5 lbs before my surgery and it was delayed for 2 months. Hopefully that won't happen to you. Try not to worry though ... I know it's easier said than done.

Do you have any reason to think your liver is enlarged? Are you on a lot of medication? Do you drink often (don't answer that LOL)? Your liver will be fine.

Worrying won't help.  It'll just make you miserable.

If you are not cheating on your meditrim you have NOTHING to worry about. Just because you don't lose pounds does not mean your liver is not shrinking. One has nothing to do with the other. In the 2 weeks I was on liquid diet, I lost 6 pounds. That's it but my liver was fine.

Don't worry about losing weight now. It's not important right now. Just don't cheat and you will be fine. Honest. Most people do lose a fair bit of weight on the 2 week liquid but I can testify not everyone does. Hang in there. You are doing fine.

Besides all of that walking may be building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.

I have lost about 5 pounds on the liquid diet but will actually only be on it 9 days as my surgery date was booked before I could get in and get it ordered. I have been so shaky and irritable on the meditrim I think my blood sugars are dipping low. I just have waited so long for this and now I have a lot of people around me telling me not to do it. Mymother thinks it is ahuge mistake of course we have used food as a reward since I was a child, my 16 year old daughter thinks it is a huge mistake and I even have friends telling me not to do it.  My sister who is a personal trainer thinks it is  a bad idea.

Friends say we have seen you accomplish everything you put your mind to except loosing weigth if you just put your mind to it we know you could do it , look at how good you have been following the meditrim and walking.

People just do not seem to understand. I have lost 80 pounds before and gained it back I see this band as a tool to keep in check when I reach a palteau when I feel like stress eating.

I am a nurse and know I should not get panicky about my liver but my logical mind can not make sense how 9 days on meditrim will make me ready for surgery whenat first I was told I would need at least 2 weeks.

I did call yesterday and see if I could eat some carrots or something and got the go ahead to eat suger free jello and chicken broth.

Sorru for teh long post can you tell I am a tad overwhlemed by everything.

Bull! They do not understand the disease of obesity. You are doing this for your own health. If you have lost weight even once and regained it, you have screwed you weight control mechanisms. I am a diabetic and my sugar control has improved dramatically. I am taking 1 needle per day instead of 3 & a lot less in that needle too. My blood pressure was 92/57 in the dentist chair the other day. My doctor cut 2 medications in half. I have days when I get angry at my band because it can be a pain in the butt. On the whole, i love my band and know that it is saving my life.
Your experience makes me glad I didn't tell my family before I had the surgery. I didn't want the hassle! My body, my decision.
I live in New Maryland- if you want to meet for coffee to talk about band l after the band, I will PM you my phone number.

It is tough when you face opposition from your family. I doubt this will help but maybe if you explain why as a diabetic you cannot lose the weight. Explain insulin resistance to them. I still don't think it will change their mind though. Empathize you are doing this so you can be healthier and live a healthier life. Nothing to do with them really and if they are so opposed to surgery, then it's best that they don't have it.

I still haven't told my family except my 2 sons and my ex husband. Not even my best friend-My family would totally use this wls against me. Just the way they are. Whenever I've needed support, I've always come here. Some of the most wonderful people in the world live on this forum.  (I might be a bit biased)

Don't worry about the liver. In the US, most patients only do 2 days of full or clear liquid and they are not dropping dead so it must be OK.

I could be totally wrong with this assessment but I think part of the reason for the two week fast besides weight loss is for mental preparation. You realize that if you can go a month without food and live, it seems to help post op when you have days when you can't eat. Kind of breaks the eating cycle. Did for me anyway.

Hi!  I am going for my band in less then 8 hours, and I know what the ups and downs feel like.  I can relate to the people who are worried for you and fear this isn't necessary, but like you I choose to get my life back!

They have no idea what it's like to not fit in a theatre seat, being unable to bend over and reach something off the floor or having constant pain from bad knees.  If only they could walk a mile in our shoes!  Different story.

Like you I only had 9 days of meditrim and I have been cold and *****y and tired and no fun.  That's OK, when I am slim on a beach I will have forgotten all that, and so will you!

Take control of YOUR life!  You are strong, you can do it!

Proud of you!
