I have a problem (this is kind of gross)

Many years ago i had 3 big abdominal surgeries so I have a scar that runs from my umbilicus to the pubis and about 1/4 inch wide. Since I have lost quite a bit of weight and my felly flab is hanging down flatter against my belly.

The problem is I am getting sore excoriated skin there. I wash the area with soap and water, rinse well and pat dry. I apply barrier cream to the sore areas but it gets so itchy, I oten scratch without thinking and have got the skin all scratched off. The scar is reddened and skin is off the bottom of the it and it is itchy and  it is sore!

I am still over a year away from a tummy tuck  and that's only if I can maintain the weight loss so nothing for certain there.

What do i do about the sore spots now. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

I find that Fuciden cream (prescription) helps with healing. I am slow to heal due to diabetics. Are you wearing cotton undies?  Also corn starch may help keep the area dry..... don't use talc.

Hi Maggie,

Wash with Dial antibacterial soap, dry the spot really well, and then apply an mild cortisone cream in the morning to help stop the itching, and at night, apply a antibiotic cream on it to help heal it while you sleep. Hopefully that will help!

I get extremely irritated under my breasts and under my bell flab if there's any amount of perspiration there.  And I can go outside now in just shorts and a tshirt.  I am always hot.

I use deodorant if you can believe it.  It keeps me from perspiring too much.  Also, if I get too irritated, I'll use gold bond powder in the green bottle.  If I put the powder on at night, it's usually much better by morning.

I just got the cream Charline mentioned so I'll try that next.

Take care of using the cortisol creams as they actually thin out your skin and could cause little tears etc.

What I now often use (based on my doctors recommendation) is zinc ointment aka baby diaper rash cream ... is costs a lot less too!  lol

It helps healing, deters from scratching (my itchiness usually increases when I have eaten too many carbs/sugar so watch your food choices) and can be used everywhere.

Good luck and take care,

M

Wow, thank you guy for all of your suggestions. I will try some or all of these until I find something that works for me and until I get in to my doctor  2 months from now..  I used to have a similar problem under my breasts in the summer when it was hot but nothing like my belly skin.

Oh my, you lose one problem spot and gain another. LOL

The only thing that has ever helped for me is Lotriderm.  It is because mine turned into ""Jock Itch"" or yeast infection.  Try it...it was the only thing that ever stopped the itch and healed mine. I keep a prescription for it opened at all times....cause ya never know when a flare up will happen.

Being a nurse, I will tell you to take caution using Cortisone creams, the above post is true, they can thin the skin. It sounds yeasty to me if you scratch and it is flaky, itchy, red and mosit around the area.... Your Dr. can prescribe a canesten cream that you can apply topically a couple times a day until it clears up. Use a very mild soap (if any at all) in the shower, if it were me I would use Johnson's baby wash and rinse well.....pat dry and apply the canesten sparingly, ( you are not frosting a cake, a little goes along ways!)..... DO NOT apply over the counter yeast creams without checking with the pharmacist first to see if they can be applied topically, sometimes the concentration of antifugal in certain creams is too strong. Hope this helps!
