Self Pay Options In NB?
Hey Everyone,
Im just looking into self pay options and wondering if anyone else has gone down this route or checked into it? Im looking for the basis information (ei. who does it, how long of a waiting list and cost)
Im not really sure where to start so I figure I would start here.

Sarah - if you live in New Brunswick there is no charge. Medicare covers the cost. You need your family doctor to refer you to either Dr. Sylvain Beausoleil in Moncton or Dr. Marc Savoie in Bathurst. Dr. Beau's list is about 5 years long, Dr. Savoie's is about a year or so from what I can gather.
Someone on the forum here might have the fax numbers for both doctors so you can get your family doctor to refer you.

I will say that with self pay -having had to go that route personally in 2008- and speaking with other post ops that also had to go this route: You are totally in the drivers seat - you are interviewing surgeons for your surgery - Sarah you also get to choose the surgery option that will best work for Sarah not what is being offered in your region or province - once you can work out the financial issues its a very empowering situation to be in - when I have chatted with others about it - they say and I agree that for the first time in your life after trying to jump through hoops with drs for many years over obesity related health issues and feeling very defeated - you get to be in charge and call the shots!!
Do lots of research and talk to post ops and you will find that with a lot of the private clinics you will talk directly with the surgeon via emails or phonecalls concerning your questions.

I am confused. Her profile page states she is from Woodstock NB. So I just figured because she said she was looking for info and a place to start that she was just unaware that NB residents don't have to pay. I didn't pay. Unless someone announced you have to pay again and I didn't hear about it.

Some people choose to self-pay, rather than wait 5 years....However, I don't think that doctors in NB will accept self-pay from NB residents. I could be wrong about that . When I first spoke to Nadine at Dr B's office, she said something about self-pay and that you went to the head of the line. Since WLS is elective, it is very likely that the Dept of Health limits the number of procedures to control costs. It only stands to reason that self-pay should be allowed, but since when does reason have anything to do with government!!!

The clinics that I am referring to are private clinics where the only option is self pay...... most of them offer finance options which is how many people manage when they need surgery and could not wait the 5-8 years for surgery in our neck of the woods.
Self pay is the only option for a lot of people who want lapband - because in a lot of Canadian provinces - it is not a WLS that is covered.
