OT - H1N1

I know there are a few nurses here... is everyone getting the H1N1 vaccine? I'm sort of confused about it....So are you getting it?

I am not a nurse, but it is young and healthy people that are dying from H1N1. It is made of dead virus that has been chopped up. It is a medical technology thay have been using for years. Development has had about the same lead time as the regular seasonal virus. So yes, I will be getting the vaccine. You can be a carrier and never get sick. I would rather die myself than pass the virus to my new born grandchild, one of my children, or anyone. 
There is so much fear around the pandemic, that I think people are afraid of the vaccine, without cause.

 I have mixed feelings about getting the shot.  This is the first year that I've had the regular flu shot and I guess I will get the H1N1 shot as well.  I'm not convinced that it is the right thing to do, but with my son's health being what it is I think it would be safer for him if we all had it.

Yup, I trust my doc. He's been my doc since I was 18 years old.

I agree, I think Matt and I will go. My mom works with the elderly so she is getting hers tomorrow. It's all the propaganda that's making ppl on edge!

my dad is a doc and says absolutely everyone should get it.  no question. I will be getting it as soon as the hype dies down.  I'm not high risk, but will definitely be getting it.

Two girls that i work with are home with their kids who have the H1N1.  one of them has 2 kids with it and the other has a son and husband is now starting with it.

it's getting too close for comfort.

As an ER nurse - it was a no-brainer for me. I got my vaccine last Friday. I also get the flu shot every year. As for regular - low risk folks - it's a highly individual decision - but whatever decision you make - please educate yourself and be well informed. Stay healthy everyone!
