Being xtra careful- First Ambulance ride yesterday

Well girls, I'm not sure what happened but I went to the hospital yesterday in an Ambulance.

I started having chest/breats pains and thought it might be because it's the time of the month.  It was more severe than my usual cramps however I didn't associate it with the band at all.  I told Mike that I was going to lay down for a bit because I don't feel that great.

Mike came to see me after a bit and I said, I think I'll take a hot shower to ease the pain... it helped a little however I was still feeling the squeezing sensation in my lungs.  I went back to bed and after like 5 minutes I thought I was going to vomit.  I went in my bathroom (which is probably as big as my ass) and tried to throw up.  I know it's not good for the band but at that point, I was trying anything.  It wasn't working.  I thought I was going to pass out.  I was SOACKING WET... hot, cold...  I screamed and Mike came down and I said call 911 right away.  I was lying NAKED on the floor.  He said, come lay down for a bit and I knew I couldn't move so I said hurry call 911.  I felt like I was losing conscience (sorry for the spelling!)

2 firemen were at our door in less than 2 minutes.  i'm not joking.  I said I had the lapband (just in case).  My blood pressure was really high.  The Ambulance then arrived and one of the EMT's is one of our good friends.  (by that time my goods were covered with a small towel)  They quickly put me in a robe (I was like jello) and off we went.

They did all the tests imaginable.   My ECG test was "not normal" like the last one which I had before the surgery.  He said it was "quick" and that my white cells were up.   I have no clue what this means... they kept me on "Ivy" for the next 8 hours.   I felt a lot better after about an hour that I was there.  The first doctor said that he wasn't taking the easy way out and won't blame it on the surgery because he said that lapband was fine and my incisions were fine, no infections...  I was happy to hear that...

So bottom line is that they are not sure what happened but I think it might be either a Panik Attack (which I never had before) because I am not as strong as my normal self.  Or, I thought it might be astha, which I never had before?!   I had a hard time breathing.

After the whole thing happened, our friend (EMT) came back to see us.   He teased me and I asked him if he saw me naked and he said no, shoot!   hahaha!  He said, you were just coming out of the shower right?   So imagine how much I was sweating...

Scary.  This week, I will be extra careful, rested and relaxed.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like a panic attack to me... at least you have the symptoms.  The panic can make your normal pain feel 10 times worse. Medical people may sometimes say "It's only a panic attack"  I think they say that because they are ill equipped to do much about them. But it is a real problem and is terrifying.  If that is what you had, it may be your first and last attack, or it could happen again....and again.  I am not saying that this shouldn't be throughly investigated,. Of course it should. Hey, this advise is worth every cent you are paying for it! LOL  But if you do have recurring panic attacks, see a psychogist. They can really help.

Thank you Charline.  It's funny because I consider myself a relaxed, down to earth person but if it happens again, I'll approach someone for help.

Rachael , I feel so sorry that this had to happen . Keep going to the Dr. until you find out what it is , just don't let it drop .   If it is panic attack , there are meds for that . My sister has them extremely bad  & takes meds for it .  She's fine when taking them.
I am happy to  hear that it wasn't the band & that all things related to the band were fine , That would take a big load off your mind .
Let us know if you are feeling better ,OK. Take care of yourself.

Does sound like a panic attack to me, but go see your family doctor just to discuss your high whites just in case, which normally means an infection, etc.

Stay strong!

Both my son and I sufer from panic attacks. Mine started when I was 36 and thankfully all but disappeared by the time I was 40. My son has them way too frequently. About 1 every 2 months or so. His doctor does not dismiss them and he takes Atavan when he feels one coming on. Sometimes he needs 2 Atavan. I sympathize with him because I've had them. They are terrifying and you feel like you are dying. So sorry to hear you may have had one Rachael. Maybe your doctor can order something for it.

You did say you had an elevated white cell count though so you must have had (or still have ) an infection going on somewhere. The I.V. therapy may have been administered because you may have been dehydrated from the hyperdiaresis from sweating and needed to be hydrated.

Thank you so much!   I feel so blessed that I can come hear and have your support.

I did call the clinic this morning and asked that Dr. Savoie asked the emergency to send them all of the results.  She said that she would call me if there is a problem (white cells).  I'll see how it goes...

I just called Dr. Savoie's office and the secretary said that the test came out good.  They did a series of blood tests before I left and they were fine.

I feel better now.  I just have to learn to relaxe more.
