Well today is over ...soon going to bed .  I just drank my last BOOST. I was late getting started today. I had blood work done & I went at 1130 am .   I also had an ECG . Then when it came time for the arterial blood gases , she could not get them ...my arteries are too small.  So she is  faxing a report to Dr. S and see if he still wants them done or if her report is good enough , I had to go back at 2pm to have the pulmonary tests done .  She is going to call me if she has to do the gases .
I called the dietican today & she said that Dr. S  says no coffee .
All in all , my day was OK, I had a headache around supper time , but its gone now .
THIRTEEN TO GO ~~~~

Attempted arterial blood gas draws HURT - and they can bruise terribly. Hope they don't have to try again. A lot of pre-op testing - but all for good reason. Hang in there!

Hi Mary, yes it did hurt , she hit a nerve a few times when she was fishing for the artery. She said the artery was right under her finger she could feel it , but couldn't get it .
One time I was having an CTScan & the nurse that does the injections , couldn't get me , she tried several time then asked another one to try for her , then after about an hour they called a Dr. that uses a tiny scanner to find veins .It took him 3 times to get one . I watched it on the monitor , it was cool.  First time he went  right through the vein , the 2nd time he was in at too much of an angel & the 3rd time I bled like crazy . He said that's good , we know we hit it. The poor gal that does the job all the time ...said "I do this job for a living , I have never had this happen ". My veins & arteries are tiny ....go figure.
The pulmonary test shows that my capaicity is being crushed from the outside of the walls , there is several things that can do that one being obesity !  She said , it was OK for surgery , they shouldn't have any problem with me .  That's good.

Glad your pulmonary tests were ok! I have to tell you the story of my RNY arterial stabs. When I was getting on the OR table - as I have posted many times before - I was so happy and smiling. I was looking around at everyone in the green masks and the nurse was telling me who most of them were. She identified one of the people as a resp tech student. Being an RN ans knowing all about getting practice as a student - I said to her - "Have fun!"  Well - boy o boy - did she or someone ever. Both of my inner arms from wrist to almost the elbow were black and blue for days. And quite tender actually. Apparently they tried very hard to get an arterial line in for post-op monitoring. I just thank god I was asleep for the attempts. I actually took pictures of my arms. And if I look real close - I can still see tiny tiny scars on both of my inner wrists - I can laugh at it now. You'll do fine my dear. I look forward to keeping updated on everything during your journey!

Mary , it sounds like my right arm when I had surgery done on my left shoulder.  Someone wanted to do an arterial blood pressure monitoring  , he got it , had trouble getting it . The poor nurse on my left side was patting me & saying , it will soon be over ...  I also took pics of my arm ...it was so black ,  from my wrist to my inner elbow too.  Good job we heal , right !

Yes girl - it is EXACTLY what they did to you when they wanted to do arterial blood pressure monitoring - .Good job we do heal I'd say. But - a small price to pay for better health I figure. We women are tough!
no room for sissies here! Take care!

I had headaches but they don't last...  It's the withdrawls.

By the end of the two weeks, it will feel like a month but it's all for a good cause.  You will feel so light and refreshed that you won't mind it.  (for me anyways)

Good luck and hooray for us to take our health in our own hands!

Hang in there girl.... the firs few are rough!  Couple more days and the body adjusts.  Like you, I had headaches usually around suppertime but they went away after a couple tylenol!!  I'm going to join you in your drinks.  I still have some left over and want to see if I can do it to lose some weight!!  At about this time next week, the time starts to fly!  And the next minute, you're in surgery!!

Thanks  Betty ,   I am glad that I will have company in the fasting part of this .  I think the time will go rather fast too. I so HATE getting ready for surgery , that the time seems to fly by.  I always start to shake when  I get on the bed to get ready to go . I wonder if I will be allowed to take a couple of ativan ??  I could ask my Dr. for a couple for that day .
