Since Dr Savoie is not doing the DS yet, you don't know where you will be on his priority list. Doctors do move people up the list because they are at greater risk. I think your doctor should write to Drs to advocate that you be done ASAP. I suggest that you ask him to talk about the application to be done elsewhere and why you needed to do that. With your higher risk, I am sure he would not do you first because his team will need to do some easy cases first, but that would be faster than just by the date of referal....Also will NB pay for referals to Dr Christou in Montreal? That is who Dr S trained with.

Charline, I thought Dr Savoie trained with Dr Picard Marceau in Quebec city.  I'm going to confirm that on Monday but that's what I discovered in my research.  NB will not pay for Dr Christou because it is a private clinic and the wait list there is 13 years under the medicare plan from the rest of Canada.  In fact, his website says that they no longer even put those names on a waiting list because he won't be practicing in 13 years...he'll be retired.  I think OHIP does pay for it however, maybe I should move to Ontario!!!  So you have to pay on your own and when you go that route, they say it will be done within 6-8 weeks.  That's what hubby and I are looking at now depending on my talk with Dr S on Monday and his report to my family dr.  I can't wait any longer for this either mentally or physically! Our lives right now are at a standstill and frankly at 56, I don't think I can afford any more years waiting.  So we'll rob peter to pay paul and find someone to do it sooner!!!  It'll be interesting to see who he actually trained with because I've heard both names. I leaning towards Marceau because I do believe he told me, although I was pretty drugged up at the time, that he trained in Quebec city!!!  This guy has a world reputation for his work!!

I have hear that NB will not pay for surgery in Quebec.  I have no idea why or if this is even true.

Well, I'll find out tomorrow from Dr Savoie, at least I hope I will.  He was quite certain that Medicare paid for it but I won't believe that until I can confirm with Medicare or talk to him again.  Mike is certain he said he trained at Laval in Quebec city so that would be with Dr Marceau.  Again, I hope I can get some answers tomorrow, even if I have to pick away at the nurses' brain.
