Will he be doing gastric bypass? I thought he only did DS and lap band and will do VGB later. A year or ntwo is not too bad. Some of us waited 8 or 9 years to see Dr. B. Hang in there. Your turn will come.

You will need to go to a bariatric surgery site and research all of the different types of bariatric surgeries there are because there are quite a few. If you are thinking of having weight loss surgery, you need to know which one you want and which one will best suit your lifestyle. Different doctors offer different weight loss surgeries. There is duodunal switch=DS, Roun-Y gastric bypass=RnY, vertical gastric bypass= VGB, laproscopic gastric banding = lapband and there are a couple of others that are not offered in the Maritimes. The key is though, you must know which one would best suit you. Go online and research the surgeries. Some of us have spent years doing this and still feel unsure when the time comes to have the surgery. This is not something you do without a great deal of research. Good luck and wishing you the best. Don't be so easily discouraged. Some of us have waited 8 or 9 years for this.

Dr. Savoie is qualified in 4 different weight loss surgeries. Right now he is only doing lap bands. I believe he said to someone on this board that he will evaluate in the Fall if his team is ready, then they have to go for training and then he will begin the DS. He also does the VSG and RNY. I have no idea if/when he will begin these other two. I know that when I spoke with the lady in his office, she said that she now has about a thousand referrals. I don't want to be the "downer" but she said they've really been coming in since early Spring...
I haven't been to see the Dr. yet and my referral was sent on December 4th of last year. He is supposed to be doing all lap bands up to that point until he begins to see new patients.
This is the information I received about 3 weeks ago so something might have changed, not sure.
I too get discouraged at times because I see the kids growing and me not being able to do anything with them yet. But my time will come, just like everyone else's...the important thing to remember is that the referral is there...and will be seen when the time is right.

I don’t think he performs RNY either, but again I could be wrong because I was always set on having the band so I never really probed further.
I recall at my the first consult, he told me that he performs two surgeries that Dr. B does not perform (VGS & DS) so between the two of them, all Weight Loss Surgeries are performed in New Brunswick.
The first time i seen Dr Savoie was in nov 27 th 2008.he talk about three of the surgery.because i have sleep edmea..i`m approved for gastric bypass.i prefer that one because it goes faster to loss.it depend how u see things ..my friend when for that one...she lost in a year 155 pounds .she did good now its to encouraged her she need to go on.she still have at lease 100 too go.but doesn`t realy care losing more .she came a long way .i`m proud of her..its take couragement to go for that surgery ,she`s the one that pushing me to go . but i understand its for my health i`m doing this.so i`m ready ..well talk again.
