i don`t know what to do
i had a lapband dec 07 to make a long story short i have had nothing but trouble from getting acid reflux to hernia surgery to a port flip to a band slip to an infected lapband i have had four surgeries the final one august 13 to remove the lapband because i had an infection my doctor says the next option is a gastric bypass .I must admit i don`t know what to do i`m afraid that if i have the surgery it will be a disaster and if i don`t i will just gain the weight back that i lost ( by the way i lost the weight before my surgery ) if any knows someone who has had a lapband that has had trouble and had a gastric bypass to replace the band i would love to chat i have tried to find others on different forms but have had no luck i would love to chat with someone who has had experience with the band and gastric bypass thanks jacqueline
Try this forum http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/complications/ and this one is for those that have had a revision http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/a,messageboard/
Oh Jacqueline I am so sorry that you have had such a rough rough road - that is horrible and you must be at wits end.
I dont blame you for being nervous about another WLS.
The sites above should give you a board to post on with more experiences then the limited amount of members on this forum who post- that is compared to other forums.
I know there are a couple ladies who are on the Ontario board for OH that are revisions. I will try to see if I can come up with some names for you and will send you a pm.
I have also seen on the main RNY board that frequently people will post seeing who is a revision from band to RNY- to ask questions.
Good luck and you are in my prayers.

I remember when you had your lapband surgery. I was in the waiting room waiting to go in for my all day info session and sitting there thinking about you going into surgery. Then when we stopped for lunch I remember wondering how you were doing. Wondering if you were out of surgery by then.
I don't know much about DS but as far as RnY goes the surgery is the easiest part. You have some pain for a few days then you feel better. The hardest thing about RnY is getting used to living with it afterwards. I am 6 months out and have reached my second goal and am just now able to say truthfully that I love my RnY. There are still days that I don't. It's taken Deb far longer to feel that way. I have no regrets about having RnY. Even when I don't love my RnY, I still don't regret my decision. I can fool everyone else in the world about what I eat and how I eat but I can't fool myself. This was the only surgery that would have worked for me. The lapband would have been a much easier choice but I know it would not have worked for me. I know how I eat.
Jackqulinemac, nobody can make this decision for you. You are the only one who knows you best. What works great for some people may not be right for you. I don't recommend RnY for people but I can tell people my experience. It is difficult and life altering but to me it is so worth it. This may or may not be right for you. Only you can decide this.
Look at all of the surgeries offered, look at the pros and the cons. Ask yourself honestly if you could live with the aftereffects of each surgery type. Ask people who have had the surgeries and ask them to tell you honestly what the bad side effects are. If you want to know about RnY's side effects, I will gladly tell you . Keep in mind that not everyone is the same nor does everyone have the same side effects.
I wish you well in your search and in your decision. ... Maggie
