Impatient
I know that I am fairly new on the boards and my referral went in about 4 months ago...but I am feeling so impatient. I don't know how I will ever make it through waiting to have WLS. I haven't even had my first consultation and I don't even know if I will be accepted and if I am where will I be on the waiting list?
Now that I have made up my mind I want it yesterday.
I am so envious of those who are already losing...you all are doing so well.
How did you make it through the waiting period?.

Answer: by gaining weight
by losing weight
by sitting there trying to will the phone to ring
by losing faith and gaining faith
by being impatient
by being patient
by chewing my fingernails
by pulling out my hair
by wishing I could win a lottery so i could self pay
by waiting because there was no other choice
It sounds hard but in the end the years go by regardless if you are waiting or not waiting. Life goes on. You do as you need to do with the hope of one day gettin "the call". Then out of the blue when you least expect it, there is the call and you are on your way.
I just tried to stay on the straight and narrow to prove to them that I was serious about lifestyle change. I lost almost 50 pounds from last May to surgery date.I would gain and lose, gain and lose but in the end I did lose. I only lost 6 pounds on the 2 weeks liquid diet.

Is it Dr Savoie that you are referred to? If so, there are several others here that can give you an idea of the wait. I'd expect to be waiting about a year. Is self pay an option for you? I had a friend who went with Dr Coburne in Toronto area (I believe) and it was only a matter of months to get in.

We've all been through that ^^weight^^ so to speak and it is hard. Marymother post said it all. It is very frustrating!!! My surgery is in 10 days and I can't believe I made it through the waiting but you do. There were times where I just couldn't even log on to this site because I was so fed up with waiting. I tried to put it out of my mind totally. I'm sure you will be accepted if your dr sent in the referral! Just keep posting and forgetting about it for a while and looking at skinny people clothes and cursing out skinny people (that was one of my favourite things to do!) Hang tight and we're here for you!!
Hi
I dont know if you have decided which Surgery you think is best for you yet- but while I was waiting way back when - I tried to learn as much as possible about each of the different types of Weight Loss Surgery - its not a one size fits all! lol - What surgery would get me to a healthy weight- what surgery could I live with the rest of my life - I read and read and researched and talk to as many post op patients for their personal experiences. I took over 2 years to figure out this was for me - even before I approached my doctor - I wanted to make sure I had exhausted all avenues and that I would be able to be life long compliant with my surgery choice .
I know for me personally - I wish now looking back I had spent more time preparing mentally for this life altering decision - I dont regret it but its not all sunshine and rainbows over here once surgery is done - for years and years I blamed so much on being overweight - I guess to put it bluntly when the weight is gone like the food that "crutch" is gone and you have a lot of things to figure out! A lot of post ops get wacky crazy hormones too so that does not help in the matter of your mental health.
One book that was not around when I was going through my research or waiting - I really recommend to people is:
http://www.amazon.ca/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical/dp/09 76852659/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251642061&sr=8-2
Its gone into a second printing I believe so you have to pre-order if you cant find one of the older copies- I only had luck at Amazon.ca not Indigo/Chapters online - its a must read and talks about putting a plan of attack into the works for life after - great tool in the tool belt to have on hand.
Good luck with everything - everyone can certainly relate to the hurry up and wait already thinking!
take care,
deb

I agree - the wait (weight) is difficult. But for me - it gave me time to affirm and then re-affirm that i was making a choice that was right for me. Also during my waiting time - a few different health issues became apparent for me that made me even MORE sure that RNY was the right choice for me. Be patient - you time will come! Good luck!
