If you recall an RnYer named Mary C posted here on Aug 7 that she was having tummy issues and was trying to get in touch with Lise. It turned out she had a Peterson's Hernia and was very ill. She flew to Moncton and was seen by Dr. B and was later admitted to hosp and had surgery to repair the defect. Mary is currently recouperating at her parent's place in PEI. She has a gastrostomy tube but she is feeling better and will return home to Newoundland when she had fully recovered.
Mary will post herself and let you know how she is once she has recovered and returns home.Just an update for anyone who was wondering how she is.

Unfortunately, yes. As Dr. B explained it to me , when I asked, during RnY surgery he sews the intestine to the fat pad around the stomach. There is nowhere else to sew it to. Most people develop scar tissue and there is no problem as the sutures become embedded in the scar tissue but some people lose all of the fat pad and have no scar tissue and there is nothing to hold the intestine and it twists. Unfortunately also, it is very dificult to see the twist on a x-ray or even a cat scan. This can happen anytime following RnY after the person loses most of their weight. Usually after a year or so.
That's what happened to Mary. She flew into NS and her parents met her and took her to GD Hosp where she had surgery to repair the deficit. She is recoveroing in PEI. She will post all the gory details when she gets home.
