Which surgery? Are you male or female? Do you have children? How old are you? Have you ever had surgery? These are things that help determine pain levels.

Pain is very subjective.  What I find mild, someone else may find unbearable. It depends on you tolerance to pain, your age, your upbringing, your personal experience with pain, and your perception of pain. Nobody can tell you what you will feel, they can only tell you of their experience.

For me, (and I had 2 surgeries,1 day apart) the pain was bad for 2 days. By the third day I was taking Tylenol. Walking was painful for 3 or 4 days but got better each day. The staples were a real pain in the butt. Not painful, just annoying.

I don't think pain is a real deterant though. If pain were a deterant, there'd be no children. LOL

Have you ever had your gall bladder out? I would compare the pain to that. It definitely wasn't (for me) what I expected - way less. Take your pain pills the first 3-5 days after surgery and rest rest rest and you will be fine. I was pleasantly surprised!

I took one pain pill the morning after the surgery and that was it for me.  Nothing major at all,  I had lapband surdery.  Sometimes the anticipation can be the worst part or maybe the best depending on what you are waiting for LOL  Suzanne H.

Dr B undermedicates for the level of pain I experienced the first 36 hours. I found these first 36 hours very very painful. But I found out later that I could have taken more medication. The pain almost disappeared after 36 hours.

For me I took no pain killers after surgery and the night of, the following morning they gave me some for the drive home. I took liquid codeine for 3 days, basically took it cause i had those really bad shoulder pains that i had no clue waht it was, other taht that i was walking 3 days after for 30 minutes every day im up to 5km for the past month. Hte pain was a lot less than having a c=section for me. I would do it abgain in a heart beat.
Hope this helps.

I  had extreme gas pain. The pain was all through my body for the first 36 hours. I didn't expect the level of pain I had, but it went away very fast.
