Hey!
Im so glad I found this website...
Im 23 years old and I have been trying to lose weight for 5 years. Ive tried Weigh****chers, Simply for life, Personally trainers, dietician... with no long term success.
SO I started researching other weight lose ideas such as diet pills and realized I needed a more permitted solution which led me here. I have a Doctors apt. next Monday to see my family doctor and see if i can get a referal to one of the surgens in New Brunswick for lap band surgery.
Im nervous that medicare wont cover it for me. What qualifications does one needs to have medicare pay for the surgry?
Thanks for any info you can give me : )

You must have a BMI of 35 with comorbidities or 40 without other medical problems. Be prepared for a long wait for surgeries. Although we suspect that the wait for Dr Savoie is much shorter than it is for Dr Beausoleil.  I awaited 5 years. It's hard to say how many people are on Dr S's list.

Which surgery were you considering?

I had RnY so I really don't know much about the band, DS or VG. There are posters on here who have had these surgeries who would be more than happy to tell you all about them. If you have any questions about RnY, feel free to ask me,  Deb,  Debbie or Mary.

Charline along with many others here have had the band and can tell you about it. Clawerence has had DS. I'm not sure now who has had VG but they are here too. Good luck!

If you google a BMI calculator on the net, you can figure out if your BMI falls in that range.  In fact, there is probably a good chance there is one on the OH site somewhere.
I waited 5 years for a consultation, Had my first one in April.  My Info session was just this month.  I was told 1-3 months for the next call...consent, then pre-admission 3 weeks before surgery, then a final weigh in one week prior.
Best of luck.  This site, these ladies (and gents, they do exist!!), and the internet can provide a wealth of info on the surgeries themselves.
Dr B in Moncton does 3 types now, Gastric bypass, lap-band, and vertical sleeve, but he only does the VS on those whose BMI is 60 or over...then will do the bypass after that...
Dr B is who I'm seeing, so I'm not sure what specific surgeries other than lap band, that the Dr in Bathurst does....

Laura.
