Today was my 3rd visit with the team...They were all pleased with my blood sugars . I seen the dietician first , she asked me some questions , then weighed me .  Then I went to see the diabetic nurse , she took my BP it was  115/59....I thought too low , but she said some would  die for that . She didn't seem concerned . My O2 level was 99%....which is remarkable since I have pneumonia & have 4 more pills to take.  Then went in to see Dr. S. He said there was no reason that I shouldn't have the surgery.  He talked about the pros & cons of the band. Explained how it works etc.  The things that go wrong with the band are a small % it was 1%,  I am sure that the diabetic nurse said we are allowed 4 diabetic boost a day , while on the fast.  I said I hear it's 14 days of hell . They havn't heard any neg feedback . She said you have to keep your eye on the benefits of the fast .  It makes for an easier surgery.  HE said I may lose a pound a day on it .  Not eating is a BIG ISSUE to any person , not only us . We know we have to do it , but we dont have to like it . He told me that there is not many ahead of me so it shouldn't be long .
DH & I stayed up over night & got home about 30minutes ago.
So now I am waiting for the OR call !!!  I almost can't believe it .

Fiddle,

I don’t recall saying the Diabetic diet was a fast from hell, but it wasn’t easy. Like you said in your post, any human being would find it hard but it’s for two weeks and then it’s done.

Emotionally it was harder for me than most (or maybe I was more vocal about it) because it’s a big life adjustment to go from eating 3 thousand calories a day to 700. I survived it, and so did every one else on this board and I am positive you will too. When you think you can’t do it anymore, it’s over.

Whoever says that weight loss surgery is an easy way out is really not educated. My hardest time was during the fast and during the two weeks after the fast (first two weeks after surgery) but everyone is different.

Now I am doing great. I really changed my energies to concentrate on other things than food and I am happy to report that I am beginning to understand this band a little more each and every day.

I think up and downs are normal.

I’m glad to hear your BP was good and so were your sugars. You’ll be on the loser’s bench in no time!

       YAHOO,  Cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet you get your call this week.  I went this morning for the first of my pre op testing.  They just about drained the blood from me!  There was a problem with one of the tests and I have to call admissions tomorrow to see what they want me to do!  And you'll probably have to go back up there next week to meet with preop nurse!!
It IS 4 Boost a day but I think you can add some flavouring to change it up a bit.  Add some cinnamon,  almond flavouring.  I read where one lady added a tsp of HP sauce and it tasted just like a steak, according to her..........YUCK!!!!!  I don't think I would pu**** that far because there's sugar and fat in that stuff!!!  I really think someone needs to contact these meal replacement folks and get them to make different flavours.  ENSURE makes field berry, banana flavour,  butter pecan, egg nog and orange cream in addition to the old standbys....choc, van, and straw....all flavours I hate!!

Remember to keep all your receipts for gas, food, accommodations,  Boost purchases for income tax purposes!   Thanks to blueeyegirl for that one.  I wouldn't have thought about it until next March and would have not kept the receipts!!!

I know that once I start the liquid diet, I will be extremely weak especially if this heat wave continues so I'm preparing things to do that don't take much energy...watching movies, mending, etc.  The journey is about to start!!!  Starting to get excited, looking at all my new old clothes that I will be able to wear again!!!  I think I'll burn all the other ones,  ritual style!!

Let us know when you get the next major call!!!!

You know I was worried that I would be refused for some unknown reason. I was happy that he said that I was 'in'(So to speak).   I will be very diligent when I start my boost fast. I wouldn't do anything to jeprodize having this surgery.   Now to wait for the final call.  Dr. Savoie said that I may not have to have the preop done up there . I just had a complete blood /urine/stool  tests done a week ago on Monday . I think he said that they were good for 3 m onths.  My GP is sending him the test results. It would be good if I didn't have to drive up for that . Thanks Casey & Blue for the post !!
