Charlene, i am SO jealous LOL  I hope you and your DH have a wonderful time on your cruise. With 50 pounds gone you should be up for all kinds of new activities.  Way to go Charlene!!!

I lost a dear friend a few years back to cancer.  He was like a brother to my husband and a wonderful friend to both of us.  I guess if there is something positive from it all - it's the memories.  I never picture him when he was sick - only well and full of life!  My DH and I often recount the fun times and antics that we shared.  We went to a birthday party for his mother a few days ago and they had family photos from years gone by.  In one was our dear friend when he was very ill and I had to stop and take a second look - I didn't recognize him.  All I can say is make the most of every day and hope and pray for the best possible outcome.  My prayers are with you and your cousin - Suzanne

I lost my sister on my son's 11th birthday to cancer. I am afraid I know the "C" work all to well. I know I am in denial, but that is the first stage of grieving. I looked up his type of cancer and survival is zero..... I won't be able to stay in denial, but I know it's not healthy to stay there too long. The reality sets in when I e-mail my children.

Hi Charline,

It goes without saying dear friend that my good thoughts are with you and I am sending my hopes and positive thoughts your way.  I know you will have have the strength you need to be there for your cousin and his family during this time.  Lean on your friends here as you need to; we all care about you and will be here no matter what.

As for cruising - good for you!  It will be the lift you need.  As you recall I had surgery in December and was cruising by mid February.  I ate my protein first at every meal.  I had this little mantra when my plate was put in front of me at the restaurant or when I went through the buffet line.  I said "I am 2 years old, I need my Mummy to make sure I eat healthy."  I then would fill my plate as though I were feeding my grandson or I would cut up just enough for my grandson and eat only that.   When I got to the point where I had eaten what I should and was toying with the idea of eating more - I just asked my waiter to remove my plate.  Then my hubby would order our dessert.  He would ask me what I would like to have or sometimes he would pick what he wanted and surprise me but whatever he ordered, we would share it.  I would have a spoonful or 2 and then let him finish the rest.  As for drinking - well I don't drink alcohol so that was no problem.  Water - I drank it all the time, all day.  I carried water everywhere I went on excursions.  Pool side I would order large glasses of ice water all the time.  At meals I would drink only just before the meal and then ask the waiter to remove my glass so that my meal was liquid free.  It got to the point that they knew "madam prefers not to have her water during her meal" and they would take it away when they brought my meal.  We were gone for 14 days and I did remarkably well using that method.  Just pretend you are feeding a small child, eat your protien first, let hubby do the dessert and just share a couple of tastes, be active at every opportunity and most of all drink in the scenery, inhale the relaxation and  wallow in the luxury of the service provided on the ship. If you do that you will be just fine.

Have a wonderful time.
Ann
