So how do you eat well on a cruise?

I just booked DH & I on a 5 day cruise in Norway & Denmark. I know that I will exercise a ton, there is a rock wall, walking track and a great gym. BUT What do I do about all the sweets??  Any tips Ann? We are going to Aberdeen (to see my daughter) on the 23-24th, leaving for Copenhagen  & the cruise on the 26th. Then back to London and home on the 31st.

By the way, my friends, I want to share that the last few days have been hell. My favorite person in the world has brain cancer and it does not look good. He had surgery yesterday and they had to leave a tumor in his head.He is my cousin and we have been partners in crime since our teens.  I don't need anything, just wanted you guys to know in case I start getting negative about everything including the band.

Charline, I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin.  I'm sure there is nothing that I can say that will make it better but know that we are here for you.

I'm sending you positive vibes and huge hugs.

Thanks Rachel. He is very special to me. We were a bad influence on each other in our teens, so there are a lot of bonds! LOL
All vibes and prayers gratefully received.

I am so sorry to hear about you cousin Charline. I just attended a funeral 2 weks ago for a 51 year old friend who died of metastatic cancer that originated in her kidney then from there to her lung and brain. She was diagnosed last July and given 2 or 3 months to live and she lived for over a year.

It's so sad to watch people you love suffer and feel totally helpless. Just be there Charline, that's all you can do.

Your cruise sounds wonderful. How long will you stay in London?  That's where I'dlove to go.

Thanks Maggie. He come home today (his wife is a nurse so they sent him home early.)  I stopped by tonight, tried not to stay too long. I am so far into denial. I just keep saying to myself "Not Jim" over and over.

We will just pass through the airport this trip. There won't even be enough time to take the tube to Harrods! Last trip I said that I would spend a whole day at Harrods this year. The pictures I see of Norway, it will more than compensate for not spending a day in shopping heaven. The plan is to leave Sunday, straight up to Aberdeen on Monday when we arrive, on Wednesday we will fly to Copenhagen. We will have a couple of hours before we have to board ship to explore. The first and last day is at sea, cruising the Adriatic, the next 2 days are stops at a city then an amazing fjord- both with names I can't pronounce!  then back to London for the flight home.

I hope your cousin beats the odds, many do, so don't lose hope, try to stay positive , and keep the joy in your relationship. I have lived long enough to know there are lessons to be learned from every situation, no matter how painful. So embrace your feelings, dont deny them, and yes have a good cry then stand up tall and be strong.

Thanks. I have delt with loss more times than I care to remember, including 2 siblings and both parents. Not all loses are equal . Of all the people I care about, with the exception of my children and my husband, this would be the worse. I am closer to Jim than any of my remaining siblings. Whatever the lessons, I prefer to live without them.

I hate the "C" word. It pains me to even say it. I have lost my Mom and my sister to.........It is not going to  be easy so there is no point in pretending. These feelings are going to have to be dealt with and I know you can do it. Look how far you have come already!  Death is hard no matter who it is but so much harder when it is someone we love so much. Hang in there. Enjoy your cruise and take small tiny bites of everything you try. Denying might not be something we should be doing given that perhaps our days here are nubered. Enjoy them all! Have a nibble for me.

Charline, have a great time on your trip. Eat you protein first and when you have finished that and if you have any space left, have little bites (just tastes) of sweets. This surgery wasn't meant so that you would never touch anything sweet again in your life. Just moderation. Plan your sweet eating so you don't go overboard.  Like say to yourself.. "I am going to eat 4 ounces of butter tart or whatever and try to stick to that amount"  Just an example.  Skinny people eat a few sweets too. Enjoy, life is way too short!
