If for whatever reason, my medical coverage does not cover me for the lap band procedure, what is the price to have this done? Does anyone know? If so, pls advise!

If you are having LapBand surgery in New Brunswick - the province pays for it.  There is no charge to the patient at this time.  That could change if the government changes I suppose but for now - it is covered by Medicare.

However the wait is long - up to 5 years for Dr.Beausoleil in Moncton and perhaps a year or so for Dr. Savoie in Bathurst.

If you aren't covered and have to get it out of province (e.g. Ontario), a friend of mine paid $15,000. That was 2 years ago though and I believe that Medicare NB will now even pay for some / all of that. I'd check directly with Medicare New Brunswick to find out the latest and greatest.

If you don't meet the criteria, medicare will not cover you. You must meet the criteria for a wls surgeon to agree to do it too. There are so many people in this province with BMI's of 60 -70 or more with life threatning co-morbidities waiting for surgery it is hard to get it done here with a low BMI. But you never know. You'll never know until you try, right? Good luck with that.

December  2007 / 293 pounds (higest weight)
Day of surgery  Feb 12 /09 / 251 pounds
Current  weight /  206  pounds
First  Goal 199  (onederland)
Second  Goal / 180  (I'd be happy here if I never lost another pound)
Final  Goal / 140  (final goal, more of a wish)

Hi, I've just got the band on july 20th and I didn't pay for it.If your family Dr.send in a lettre telling that your morbid obese and with the rest of your medical history and send it to Dr. Beausoleil or Dr.Savoie By seeing you there should be no charge .The medicare is seeing this as a new way to help us with us getting better and being less in with Drs. and in hospital. They are seeing this as helpful and saving lives now.My wait was 7 months. The only thig I founded hard is the diete for the 2 weeks and then this for a month. But IT IS GIONG TO BE GREAT.Since july 2nd I've went from 128kgs to now 115.9kgs.I haven't taken any meds for the other things I was taking before and no soreness I even went a bit shopping yesterday without my cane did a round in the store and no pain in my back and knees so for me this is great.Hope your DR. is as good as mine and sends a good letter to this DRS.

Thanks for the info calicomoon3.. very much appreciated.  As for my family Dr, he sent Dr Savoie an amazing letter of referral as I have a few potentially life threating health issues as a result of my weight; therefore, he sees no problem in having something done as a result.

Sounds awesome that you lost alot of weight so far.. .Keep up the good work! :)
