Stupid question:  Will the lap band itself be removed after the patient reaches their goal?

I am very new to this forum; therefore, you will find that I am asking foolish questions! But bare with me!!!!

Pls inform.

Nope, the band is yours for life.  Unless for some unknown reason you have complications then they would consider removing it...but otherwise, it's yours.  Once you reach goal the amount of saline in the band is left at a level which will help you maintain your weight.

By the way, no questions are foolish questions, that's how we all learn.  Ask away !!!!!

Do you know there is a criteria that you must meet to be considered for weight loss surgery?  Are you aware that you must have a certain BMI or lower BMI with co- morbidities. Depending on which surgeon you want to see, it is a long waiting list. Shorter for one than the other. I waited 6 yeaqrs. Others have waited longer than me. I believe the other surgeon's wait list is shorter.

Yes, I am aware of the above mentioned criterias in having this weight loss surgery done, that's why I was asked by my family Dr to seriously consider it before he went ahead and sent in the referral...

I think the BMI is 40 or 35 with more than one co-morbidities. I could be wrong with the numbers but those come to mind. Years ago you had to get a referral to an endocrinologist but now it is just a referral to the wls surgeon. I waited 6 years for my initial consult with Dr. Beausoliel. I think it is faster with Dr. S in Bathurst.

According to my family doctor, my BMI is 38 and yes, I do  have three co-morbidities/strikes against me as a result of my weight problems...
