Hello all;

I am living in Moncton ; New Brunswick and am 5'4" tall; and weigh in at 275; with a BMI well over 40.  I am soon to be 59 years old and need to do something.  I am going to my family physician next week for a referral; as I believe I meet all of the criteria.

which by the way. LOL; I had found this am; but cannot find it again as I want to print it out for my Dr.  Could anyone help me in finding the criteria to be referred?  If so thanks a bunch.

I am also wondering what the wait times are for the two Dr.'s due to my age.

I am also wondering what weight loss procedures each of them do?  If anyone knows; sure appreciate it.

Thanks so very much

Hi PIchou, welcome to the board.  I think you will find all the answers you are looking for right here.  It's a great bunch of people with tons of knowledge.  You will feel very at home here.  As I mentioned earlier, I don't have the specific answers but all the folks on here have at least a piece of the answers.  Welcome, Patsy

You likely don't have time to see Dr B- the wait is 8 years. I don't think he will do surgery if you are 60 or older. I could be mistaken..... I don't know the wait for Dr S, but suspect it is less. He does not judge based solely on age either. I would get your doctor to write a letter arguing that you can't wait too long. It may help.

Hi Charlene;

Thanks so much for your reply.  I am going to call Dr. Savoie's clinic on Monday.  How are you doing with your lapband procedure?  How long has it been?  Oh; I may see it on your site.

I am looking into the duodenal Switch procedure as I believe he does this also; but I do not know how experienced he is with any of this.  Do you know?

Medicare does not list duodenal Switch but said that a procedure could be sent to them to see if it would be approved.  A gal told me he just began to operate this past June on these procedures; but she had seen him last summer and was done; I think this month.  My memory is the thing I miss the most. LOL
I do not know what my family Dr. will say; although I have made up my mind to look into it with a referral.  Of course I have to get  on the shortest waiting list due to my age and health problems that I have developed including sleep apnea.  Hope to hear from you again.
Take Good Care;

Hi Judy,

I'm very new to this site as well.  I had my inital referral to Dr. B in 2004, and got a call this year.  I had almost forgotten about it, or figured that the referall got lost in the "mail" somehow.

I've had my initial consult in April, and could have gone for my info session in June, however, was unable to do so due to a work committment.  So I'm scheduled for the 4th of August in Moncton.  In April, he told me 6 mos from the time I had my consult to when I could get surgery, with all the info stuff inbetween...

The ladies on here seem to be very well informed, and their advice is valued.  I haven't seen too many men though?  I wonder if thats because they are exceptionally quiet, or like to stay in the background.  Soaking it all in so to speak...LOL...I know there are guys who have WLS too.

Best of Luck.
Laura.

You bet ur ass; most men do not have a problem; right???????  Beer bellies are accepted in our culture; but not women with apple or pear belly's.  "Get my drift.??

I do not have that long to go due to my age of 59; so will hopefully get a referral to both; but a call withing6 months; aren't I a dreamer. lol

I only wish I had thought of this much earlier in my life.

I wish you luck and plse keep in touch;

Judy from Moncton

I hail from Hill-Billy Hickville...Opps...I mean, Geary, NB.  Just outside of Oromocto.  Gotta love the wildlife here though...and I don't mean the animals...kinda scary actually.

My hometown in Moncton, first 20 yrs of my life was there, my daughter born there too.  Looks like I may be in Ontario in a couple years though.  Posted.  May be Cold Lake, AB...but I'm hoping for the former.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised about the men who lurk and don't say much.  It goes with the whole communication thing right??  Tho I've met some, (ok, just ONE) who had WLS and he is doing fantastic.  He posts his pics and stuff on facebook.  He is very proud of what he was able to do (as well he should be!!)

Judy, I hope you get your referal soon.  I did get the impression tho, that for Dr B in Moncton, the wait is lengthy.

Cheers to all.
Laura
