I fear that I am too tight. I can eat lots of things but any protein- chiuchen, eggs- and I get stuck. I have to up chuck to clear it. I get stuck a lot, but not everytime I eat.  I know that I should call the clinic. but  I don't want an unfill. Unless there isn't another choice. What do you girls think? I could stick to a soft diet until it loosens up with weight loss. One problem with this is I am having a hard time getting enough calories and protein via healthy choices.

I just had a big lecture today on how important protein is. We have to have between 60-80 grams of protein a day and the only way to do that is to suppliment with protein drinks. Maybe that is what you may have to do.  Are you cutting up your protein really, really small? Or does that even help.  Hang in there, if you cannot eat it, drink it!

Good Luck

The clinic would tell you that if you are too tight to let them know right away.  You can cause problems if you leave it.  You DEFINITELY don't want to start with reflux.  You can't live off soft food until you loosen up.  You need to let them know.  I didn't want an unfill either but it was the best thing for me.  You can create  problems for yourself if you leave it.  Let them be the judge.

On the main lapband board today/yesterday was a post by SandyR on varying restriction and this was # 7 in the list.    I thought you might find this helpful.

7. Know the definition of a good fill vs one too much. Trying to keep
a too-tight new fill is the #1 reason for all the big band trouble,
including reflux, slips, erosions, and band loss. I believe our docs should be giving us clear written guidelines on all this, never just sending us you blindly home to fend for ourselves.

I think you should call Lise/Caroline.

See, that is exactly what I was talking about. I was getting stuck just about everytime I ate. I don't believe I was too tight, just eating either too fast or too much. It must have been. I don't get stuck so much now though. I go tomorrow for a fill so I'm going to ask Lise or Caroline about it. It can't be that it was too tight because I can still eat way too much. If only we could tell what tight or loose actually feels like. I'm just so unsure about so many things. It might be because I haven't talked to the girls in Moncton about it and only you guys. I will tomorrow and I'll try to figure it all out, at least to some degree. I'm just so scared they won't do a fill if they think I'm too tight. I just have to get some restriction. I can't eat as much as I used to but I'm still not losing. Tomorrow will tell. Call the girls Charline and talk to them about your stuck episodes. Don't let it go just in case you end up with complications. You're doing too great to jeapordize that....Oh and by the way...a grandSON....woohoo. EXCITING!!

Call Lise/Caroline, talk to them.  They are they professionals. Let them know exactly what is happening with you.  They will only give you the direction you NEED to keep thing going in the right direction.  Don't take a chance on creating avoidable complications.  Charlene, I know this is the same advice you would give to others in your shoes - DO IT TODAY!  Your doing great - you've got to keep it healthy.  With a new Grand Son on the way???  you don't want to risk your health now :-)  Love & prayers - Suzanne

I am new to this forum and just had my referral from my family Dr to see Dr Savoie in regards to the lap band surgery.  I am wondering as to what is meant by being 'stuck'... Pls  inform!

Glad to hear that you are all doing wonderfully well!

Stuck happens when food will not go into the stoma (little stomach created by the band). It is not fun. I am too tight and that is why I am getting stuck so often. I am not loosing weight either. That is probably because I am not getting enough protein or calories.

I calculated your BMI at 36.9. With a BMI under 40, you have to have co-morbidities (health problems other than the weight) to qualify for surgery.
