Nervous Wreck

So my surgery is in two days and I am beyond nervous. My cold is better. What worries me right now is my lungs. On Thursday I went to Bathurst for my final pre op appointment and I had a bunch of tests done, I had a lung function test, which being asthmatic I’ve had many. During this test, I was asked to breathe deeply in and out in a machine so they could determine how my lungs were functioning; well that test seems to have triggered my asthma. I asked the dude administrating the test how my lungs were, and he said they were pretty good and close to normal but…

Since the test, I’ve been coughing and wheezing which I wasn’t before. I’m worried this will postpone my surgery.  I’m not in a full blown asthma attack by any means, frankly it’s not that bad and it if wasn’t for surgery, I wouldn’t even be worried. I am taking my inhalants daily but I am still coughing and wheezing. I’m not really sure if it’s asthma or just the end of the cold.

I’m so nervous about surgery, I’m scared of going through it, I’m scared of being postponed, I’m scared of having to do the 2 week liquid diet again, and to be honest I’m scared for my lungs.

I know anesthesia is hard on the lungs and I want to make sure I won’t catch pneumonia or fall into an asthma attack once the surgery is over.

I just want to survive this surgery and have a healthy and speedy recovery.

I had pretty bad asthma as well. I told Dr. B. abut it because I was worried too abut the effects of anesthesia with asthma. I was afraid it would trigger an asthma attack. He just told me to take my puffers for 2 weeks prior to surgery. My asthma was fine. I did however contract a fungal infection from using the puffers for so long. I could have prevented it by thourly rinsing my mouth following every use of the puffer. I pass this on to you to rinse rinse, rinse. If you use your puffers now, it may help. If in doubt, call Dr. s.'s office and they will advise you.

Dr S is not going to take an chances. If you have to be postponed, you will deal with it and we will help you. The upside is you have lost weight and if you have to do another liver shrink, you will do it and lose even more.
As for the coughing- when I have to breath deep is stirs up my deep lungs and I start coughing. You are just cleaning some s**t out!! LOL

Thanks Charline,

I'm much better today actually. I am no longer wheezing and just have a small cough. Yeah absolutely, if the Dr feels he needs to postpone then that's what it is, but so far I think I'm doing okay for tomorrow's surgery.   That test is exactly what happenned, I wasn't even coughing before I had the test and then right after the test my asthma began bothering me. Since then though, I've been much better :) I was even worried yesterday, but today not so much.
Wish me luck tomorrow :)
