Just wondering if anyone knows as to how long it would take to have the lap band surgery done --  from the time of the consultation wtih Dr. Savoie in Bathurst til the actual surgery date??? In other words, what would be the wait time? Anyone know? Pls advise! :)

Welcome to the best bunch of recovering foodies in the OH world!!  LOL  We are a fun bunch, very supportive, and have lots of shoulders to cry on, believe me I know (and am grateful).

There are people here who can better answer this (I am a Dr B patient), I don't think it is  a long wait. Most of the folks here had there initial consult last fall but he didn't start surgeries until recently. The only example I can think of is Scartears- she had her second consult on June 1, and her surgery is July 22. Have you had your initial consult?

Hi, timelines really haven’t been established as of yet since he is just beginning his practice. If you have sent your referral in, I would say your initial consult would be the beginning of next year since there are a lot of people who are still waiting for initial consults who have sent their referral December 2008.

Again, really it’s hard to say but I’m sure it will be a shorter wait than with Dr. Beausoleil in Moncton. I have been waiting on his list since 2007 and have yet to receive a call.

Here is my timeline:

Oct 09th – met with Dr. Savoie first time

June 09th – 2nd consult

July 22nd – Surgery date

Hope this helps!

I went to see DR.Savoie in Oct,Then again in June.Iam having it done Aug 19th.But when I went there was not alot of people that were on the list. Now I think there is alot more.
it will be a shorter wait than with Dr. Beausoleil in Moncton. As I was told there was a 5 year list there.
You could call 506   548-9960   And see if she can let you know any thing.
Or 1800-708-9998 this is the hosp and that is were I called to see if I was on there list..
Did you see DR.Savoie yet?? If not when you go you can asked him also.Time will go fast as it did for me.As when I seen him in oct he said it was going to be the new year and then things happen and it was not in the new year,But now it is almost here..
Good Luck.

not sure about Dr.Savoie, but just saw Dr. B in Moncton today. I was on his waiting list for 4.5 years. I was told from first step- 4th step, will take roughly 6 months till surgery. Step one see nurse and doctor to determine eligibility, step 2,- all day patient info sessions with nutritionist, pyschologist, group meet, etc, 3rd step- meet with nurse to determine if still wanted, chest xray, cardiogram, blood test, 4th step signing of surgery papers , see surgeon.  I think that was the steps if memory serves me correctly. not all that sure about 3rd step , but I think that was it. Hope this helps, one should know that it takes awhile before the actual surgery is done. She also informed me a two week , liquid only , diet is followed prior to surgery to reduce the size of the liver, since this is lifted up during the actual surgery. She recommended a liquid diet , and bars, purchased from montreal, for around $200.00 for the two weeks
