do all the surgeons require you to go on a liquid diet prior to surgery?

For the band they definitely do. Most surgeons want you to show committment to weight loss. For the band you need to shrink the stomach in order to do the surgery.  I am not sure about other WLS types.

The doctors at the Halifax Weight Loss Clinic also require you to go on liquids for a week before surgery and any week prior to surgery to get you accustomed to liquids and also to shrink your liver.  It is a very challanging request so I completely understand why they do it.   This is the third time I am trying it and this week seems to be the best so far. I go for my second consult on July 21. Good Luck.

Dr B didn't when I had my surgery. It was just 1200 calories for a couple of weeks. From what I've read here, though, he does have you do a liquid diet now. I was fortunate!

Dr B. requires 2 week liquid fast for RnY too. I lost almost no weight my 2 weeks but I did not cheat.   It was tough but the first month after surgery is tougher, I think.  The 2 week fast seems to prepare you for the after surgery life for RnY anyway. You spend a lot of days on liquids only.
