Hi to all,
I was the first patient Dr. Savoie did in Bathurst. I was banded on June 3rd. I live in Beresford, NB so it's not far from Bathurst. I got my first fill today at the Bariatric Clinic with Dr. Savoie. During the surgery, he put 1cc of saline and he put another 1cc today. He said he was playing safe and put saline little by little. I have to go back in a month and see if I need another fill.
For those who are wondering if it's worth it I will say this "If a had to do it all over again, I would already be on the operating table". It was one of the best decision I made in all my life. My new life started June 3rd, 2009.
I lost 31 pounds so far. I'm diabetic type 2 and since my surgery I take way less insulin than I use to. I take an average of 3 units of Humalog each meal, 2 Metformin in the morning and the same at supper time and 18 to 20 units of Levemir at nights. I also take 10mg of Altace and 5mg of Crestor. I'm going for blood test August 22 and I hope to get rid of some meds.
Dr. Savoie was really pleased with what I had lose so far. He said the more I would lose the better it would be for me and there's a slight chance I can get rid of the insulin. I read in a book written by a surgeon that if you've been taking insulin for more than 10 years the chance for you to get rid of insulin are slight but still possible, it depends of your body and how you react .
He also told me that he was following his list of patients. He's almost done the ones he saw in October and he's planning to do the November ones in August, the December ones in September and so on.
The two weeks prior the surgery, you have to to dring 4 bottles of Boost diabetic and water only. It's really important that you follow that because if you don't they will know and they can tell you they won't do your surgery. The main reason for that is to lose the fat around your liver so they can do your laparoscopy. Just think of your lapband and it's finally the light at the end of your tunnel.
If you have any question, I'll try to answer them. If someone knows when the support group in Moncton meets, I would appreciate because I want to start a group in Bathurst.
Anxious to hear from you,
clempier

Hi,
My Neurologist suggested last week that I talk to my family doctor about this surgery as I am very obese and it has been causing major sleep disorders.
I have a couple questions if anyone may know:
1) If you are refferred by your doctor is this covered or is this seen as plastic surgery that I would have to pay for?
2) After the surgery what is the recovery time before returning back to work (desk job not manual labour).
Thanks in advance, I am just very curios about this before I see my doctor as I have been fighting with my weight since I was a kid and I am now 35.
Best Regards,
Frank
