Stuck for the first time!

I finally experienced what it means to get stuck. NOT FUN!  I munching carrots and I must have not chewed enough. For those of you who don't know this is how it went. First there was pressure at the breast bone. Then I got hick-ups. Then I started to salivate. Boy did I salivate. I literally stood over the sink with my mouth open as the spit poured out of me.  I couldn't spit fast enough so I just left my mouth open while it ran (no not dripped) out.  Finally it went down. Fortunately it didn't last long. I am not anxious to repeat this adventure. Thank goodness I was at home. Can you imagine being unable to control the saliva in a restaurant while you hunt for the bathroom?

Oh dear, that sounds awful. Not something I would ever want to experience.  Thanks for the explaination. I am not usually a "chewer" more so a swallower. Guess I'd better take a crash course in chewing. LOL

Be careful,

Carmen

Charline, a hard lesson learned.  You will be more careful in the future. What a terrible feeling it must be. I hope that I don't forget & do the same thing . I know I don't chew enough.

I have either done very well with chewing or i have been very lucky, but I will be aware of eating something that needs to be well chewed while doing something else. I had grabbed a couple of baby carrots to hold me over to supper and continued getting supper ready. How easy is that to do? I have learned a lesson for sure.

Ouch.....I guess we up and comer's have a lot to learn.  But I know for me anyway, I probably will have to experience it before I really learn the lesson!!!  Sounds really odd that you would salivate so viciously!  Looking forward to all the fun! (I think)

I had read about how much you salivate but until you experience it, you would never believe it. I swear that if you swallowed it all, you could drowned!!  I know that it can go on for a lot longer than I experienced.  I knew what it was so it didn't scare me....much.

I know EXACTLY what you mean.  I too was munching on a carrot.  A vegetable tray left in the staff room and I grabbed a couple of baby carrots on my way to cafeteria duty.  Chewing as I walked along.  By the time I got to the cafeteria I was salivating so much I couldn't swallow it.  Never experienced anything like it before. When I tried to swallow it just made matters worse.  I ducked into the special needs washroom (thank goodness it was handy) and like you, just let it pour into the sink.  It only lasted a few minutes and I threw up - relief was instantaneous!  I was in a hurry - often the way - no time to go to the washroom let alone eat :-(

Sorry - not great for suppertime conversation - but take care to you all - chew, chew, chew and then chew some more!

Does anyone know if this happens to "sleevers" or only bandsters?  It sounds pretty scarry actually.  Drooling so badly that you have to lean over a sink!  That is just plain grosse. I will start to practice chewing until I hear otherwise from a "sleever"

Has happened to me as well; last week at Subway. I am usually fine with a vegetarian sub, this time I had the wrap instead of the bread. Did not go well. I knew it was stuck, so I put the sandwich down, nodded at the girls, then made my way to the washroom. The girls know the drill, so they don't question or ask questions anymore.

No fun for sure.   I have found a great alternative to bread though which is Ryvita snackbread; I absolutely love it. I use it the same way I did bread; well, I can't make grilled cheese sandwiches though! LOL!!! Bread gets stuck for me 99.9% of the time, so I'm glad to have this alternative.
