Questions???
Okay, so how does restriction feel?
What is the difference between restriction and discomfort?
Why do we have discomfort? I haven't had a block yet but I have been "slow". I thought the food - 1 cup - went into our pouch and we would feel full - right? Then the food gradually goes through into our stomach?
So why do we feel discomfort as soon as we eat something that doesn't immediately go through the stoma? I thought that was the whole idea. Maybe it just takes time before we actually start using our pouch?
And how do we know when we have found the "sweet spot"? Maybe its like finding your true love - you just know when its right? LOL
What is the size of the band that Dr. B uses or how many cc's does it hold?
I don't know why I don't think of these things when I'm in Moncton!! If there is anyone out there who knows the answer to these questions I would like to hear your thoughts.

For me restriction equals discomfort if I have one bite too much.
Your stoma is being filled for the first time, so it may be more uncomforgabnle now than it will be later. It is possible that you are not chewing enough or the foods you are choosing don't agree with your stoma.
The sweet spot is being aware when you have just the right amount of food. There is usually some behavioral indicator. For me, I have noticed that I sigh and take a break in eating (put my fork down and sit up straighter for a second. The real trick for me is to be aware of when IO am doing this and stop eating. Head hunger often results in just one more bite. I pay every time by being very uncomfortable.
I don't know what size band Dr B uses but it is the largest size and he uses the same size for everyone. I suppose we could Google it.

My band ID card says it's large..but I believe its 10 ccs.
I think the office would tell us we aren't supposed to feel discomfort during the first bites. that's what i have/had been experiencing and they can't seem to explain that. That's why i had been investigate for gallstones, was because of my discomfort. They did find out I do have them...but not sure that is the same discomfort i had been complaining about.
We are supposed to eat and stop eating before we feel full. The sweet spot is eating your cup of food, not feeling uncomfortably full when you are done, and that cup of food lasting for 3 or 4 hours. That is the sweet spot. it's ideal. you eat, get comfortably full and stay satisfied for a long time. How sweet is that? If you fall into this pattern you will know you have hit your sweet spot. If you get hungry after an hour or so, you still aren't there. that's why we keep getting fills. to try and find that magic spot. (sweet spot is hard to find if you suffer from head hunger !!!!!!)
