got weighed today
Just got home from seeing my endocrinologist, physiotherapist and dietitian. My weight is still 216, so I am pleased. I am losing very slowly but that's mostly due to the fact that I am unable to exercise hardly at all. I understand this so slow weight loss is acceptable.
I see Debbie from the cape has lost a lot of weight. 70 pounds since surgery I am so happy for her as she must be for herself. I don't envy her nor am I jelouse (sp) of her. She looks like she is in her 20's or at most her 30's with a busy life, job and two small children. I on the other hand am a 49 year old, 16 year post menapausal woman who is disabled so there is absolutely no comparison between Debbie and me. I am not saying it is so much easier for her but she has youth and hormones working for her and I am sure she will do well.
So I guess nobody should compare themselves with anybody else or be envious or jelouse(sp) of anyone because we are all soo different with different ages, medical conditions and any number of other differences.
I am just happy to be losing.

Hey, jealousy is a mormal human emotion. I feel a twinge of jealousy when I am working hard but stalled and someone else has dropped several pounds. i don't for a minute begrudge them their success, I just wish I was equally successful! Jealousy isn't a bad thing, but what you do with it can be!
You are losing just fine. You started out 8 pounds heavier than I and now you are 30 pounds lighter. On the other hand you have gone through a lot for that weight loss and have earned every pound.

Thanks for asking Deb. No, but I will make an appointment with my family dictor because I think it's about time for a bone density scan. I am 16 years post menapausal and it's time. I will also ask for a rheumatory arthritis blood test too because my shoulders and hip is so painful with decreased range of motion and the physiothearpist suggested it may be RA. I may as well get a b12, ferritin and hemoglobin levels done while I'm at it. I may even ask for a fasting glucose tolerance test to see how my diabetes is doing. I haven't taken many Metformen since last June.
I am confused though. The dietitian today said I didn't need to take calcium but could increase my intake of yogurt and cottage cheese to ompensate. That would be a better option if it were true. I hate those horse pills and detest even worse the chewables.

You are doing wonderful Maggie keep up the great job. Slow and steady might be the best way to go ya know. I bet if you think back to before this journey there would be no comparisons. The feeling so much better is the best part of it all. Your right, all of us are so different in many ways so you can only do what you can do. By the way on July 9th I will be 44 :) And I know this will be the best birthday for me in a long time in regards to health reasons. Take care and keep up the wonderful job. You deserve it!!! Hugzzzz my friend :)

Just wanted to chime in - have no clue in the world why any dietician or nut would tell you dont need to take calcium- hogwash!
Sorry but we need to supplement bigtime and it must be Calcium Citrate in order for us to absorb it post RNY. Maggie you were right to think this is off and confusing - we had malabsorptive surgery and we will never get the correct amount of nutrition through diet/food- we no longer work that way.
I had my baseline bone density scan done in May and its an awesome idea to get your base so it can be checked early.
Maggie chk out the RNY board about discussions on calcium citrate requirements we need to be taking - a lot of people start out by not doing enough supplements and pay for it -
Pam on the RNY board has put a lot of work into her blog/website to provide links to the info from the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery- our guidelines in Canada usually follow closely in suit with their standards:
http://pamtremble.blogspot.com/2008/09/nutrition-guidelines- from-asmbs.html
So for what its worth - most post RNY's who are trying to be vigilant about their calcium supplementation and not have to worry about issues down the road are taking a minimum of1600 mgs to 2000 mgs of calcium citrate a day - to me this is a must ! This you do through taking 400-500 mg dosages spread throughout the day!
This link Pam discusses the way our bodies work now in relation to calcium absorption:

So girly this is my two cents - do some research and if you dont like chewables then their is liquid forms - to me its not negotiable we must get in our calcium the same as all of our supplements. Its what we signed up for when we agreed to re-plumb our insides.
ps:
There was recent talk on the Ontario board about the danger of doing a glucose tolerance test post RNY if you are a dumper and how ill you will become. Be sure to talk this over ahead of time.
Maggie if you have any questions about anything I can help with just let me know - stay healthy!
hugs
