Head hunger

I need to vent. I had RnY in Feb I am losing slowly but am losing, so that's good. My only problem foodwise is I still want stuff I can no longer eat. I know I can't have a sandwich or a big cold glass of milk but that doesn't stop me wanting them. Some days I can almost taste a cold glass of milk but I know that if I were to have one, I'd dump big time. I don't mind an occasional dump but I try not to deliberately seek it out. Not that pleasant.

Some people who had bands say they wish they had RnY but the grass is not always greener. To say "good now I will no longer be able to eat that and now I will be forced to eat right" sounds good as long as you don't forget that you still want the things that you can't eat

. The lists of foods I can no longer eat is as long as my arm. The list of what I can eat is much much shorter. Don't kid yourself. Today was hot hot here in Saint John and all day I craved milk, slushie, pepsi with ice cubes, potato salad, cucumbers, fruit juice, ice cappachino, chocolate milk, and although seldom today I craved a soft serve from DQ. Of course I had none of these things.  So you see all of these foods I can not eat but that does not mean I still don't want it. Replacing the word shouldn't with the word can't is not that much consolation.

I had no idea that you were restricted from so many foods. I knew sugar things, but had no idea about the list you noted above.  what's wrong with cucumber and fruit juice and ice capp???

Ahhh Maggie that sucks that you are not having an easier time.

I am not lactose intolerant- which is what you are saying about milk products . Actually I was before surgery but I have not had any issues since - actually my IB is now much better.

Are you able to switch to soy milk or alternative and try that for your milk fix. I see lots of people mention the different milk alternatives they use and mix it into protein shakes.

I understand that you dump so that limits the amount of sugar in each serving - do you react to sugar alcohols the same way ?

Ok like Patsy you got me stumped on the cucumbers ? From early out even when I couldnt do salads/roughage I could always do cucumbers just had to chew the heck out of them in the beginning.

The rest of your list seems to be to high in sugar - just because you dump now does not mean you will always dump- its not a guarantee for life.

Are you able to eat eggs - that is one food that still does not agree with me !

Let me know about your protein shakes and what you can tolerate - you can achieve ice capps with protein drinks and soymilk and ice- and some flavouring.

Slushies people make with all types of cold slushy drink with sugar free mixes- dont know if you will ever do pepsi- some longer out post ops do add pop back in but I have not because it was such a huge addiction for me - the amount of diet pop I consumed kept the big guys in business! I also wouldnt want the possible gas from carbonation although some drink it flat.

Hang in there girly you have to focus on what you can eat and know day by day it does get better and you can add in more foods- if you enjoy cooking you are able to make a version of just about anything one can crave - keep your eye out for all the recipes on the RNY board.

I'm so sorry this has been a nightmare for you Maggie. When I read you are "only" 215-ish lbs too my heart broke for you. I wish I could wave a magic wand and undo your surgery and give you the band - not vice versa.

Did you read my invite to Goodlife?

I just can't get fruit or cucumber, broccoli, brussel sprouts, turnip, cabbage down When I put them in my mouth and start to chew, my stomach starts to feel tight and I get a pain in my pouch. That's before I even swollow the first bite. I can eat one carrot and about 1/4 of a potato but potatoes really don't agree with me now. I have tried the soy and rice and coconut milk but don't like the taste f any of them. Protien shakes have never gone down very well so I won't be trying them again anytime soon.

I am not complaining about the loss of food though. I am losing weight slowly but surely. I would lose faster if I were able to exercise but with my back issues, I really can't. I was posting because I needed to vent and have a good complain session. I am learning to live with it  And as Debbie says, in a year or two I wil be able to eat much more, Somethinbg to look forward to.

Thank you for all of you kind words and thoughts.
