Side Effect of WLS?

I am starting on my road of research so will be posting questions every now and then. I hope you can all be patient with me.

A friend of mine in California says that she has very smelly bowel movements so she carries a  small can of spray with her all the time.

What is the worst side effect of WLS that you have had?

What kind of WLS did she have? I had lapband and have not had that experience!

She had a duodenal switch (excuse the spelling).

You must be talking about DS. I have read on the DS site that Dsers have very foul smelling BM's and farts. I don't know this for sure I just read it on that site.

I had RnY and have noticed no diference except less of it because I eat less now. I still go once a day as I always did. Good luck with your research. I don't know about bandsters. One of them will tell you for sure.

The worst side effect for me is my inability to eat cetain foods like milk, pork chops, fruit, veggies and jams. I am only able to eat cheese and bread in very small amounts. But... it is worth the loss of some foods to be finally consistantly losing weight for the first time in almost 20 years.

Why is it difficult to eat some foods?

So far, I can say that I have not had any side effects other than losing weight!  I have come close to food being stuck but it went down after a minute. If I over eat, I am very uncomfortable. Samething if I eat too fast.

The smelly BMs is a side effect of DS.

This is on;y day 6 for me on real food but I have to agree - no side effects.  Likewise, if I eat too fast or don't chew enough it can be a little uncomfortable.  As far as stuck, I'm not sure if that is what it is or not, but sometimes I have a bit of discomfort it I haven't chewed my food well enough and I'm thinking that might be a "stuck".  Also, I tried eating eggs the other day and had a minor case of the "foamies"???  It will take time and practice to change the old habits into the new ones.  Not  big price to pay in my book

You must have heard the expression "the pouch rules". This is really true. The pouch is tempermental. Yesterday I could eat with no problem a slice of bread, today I just can't keep it down.  Hence "the pouch rules".

When I say I have lost my pork chops, chicken ect, I mean it will go down very hard and within 10 minutes, it comes back up. As far as milk and chocolate goes, I feel very sick after eating it. Then theres true dumping. If I eat something too sweet I will dump. Won't kill you but ,love of God, really really sick. Not something you'd do to yourself on purpose.

All that being said, I've lost 34 pounds since Feb.

Different people dump differently. For me it is overwhelming stomach sickness but not able to throw up Then I become very very sleepy and tired and absolutely need to lie down and sleep. I also get a bout of diarrhea. This happens about 15 to 20 minutes after I've eaten something too sweet. While I am eating it, I feel fine and saying to myself "this is going down great".I had a really bad episode after eating Bran Flakes a few weeks back. It lasts about 2 hours and once it has passed you'd never know you'd been ill. I dump on chocolate milk, milk and I won't try cereal again anytime soon. Some people are afraid to try things because they are afraid to dump. Dumping feels awful but you won't die from it and how do you know what you can and cannot eat if you never try. Only about 10% of RnYers dump. Some dump worse than I do. I won't try new things unless I am at home, that way if I dump, I will not be far from my bed. I also get a rapid pounding heartrate, sweating, nervousness, lightheadedness, anxiety,dy mouth and there are a few others but I can't seem to remember them right now. BUT, you won't die from it. LOL:)

This is different from not getting something down. When I put porkchops in my mouth, my pouch feels funny. I will still swollow it and it will sit there. After about 3 or 4 bites, I feel sick to my stomach and need to upchuck. After I upchuck, I feel absolutely fine. I won't eat these kinds o thing outside my home either.
