My week of liquids - preop- starts today !!
Hi All,
So my week of liquids in anticipation of my June 8/09 surgery date starts today. I'll be focussing more on soups, smoothies and good protein sources pureed to liquid form as I have found that protein shakes have me running to the bathroom too frequently. Has anyone else found that protein power gives them the runs ? Other than being creative with my protein, I think I'm ready. I'm just waiting for the call for preadmission tests, has to be sometime this week and then it's a go.
Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me and shown their support. I know I'll be spending more time on the site when I'm off from work recuperating. I find myself checking in frequently just to see how everyone is doing, it's becoming a little routine of mine. My DH keeps asking me what I'm doing on the computer as normally I just pay bills and leave. He thinks it's funny that after all these years I'm now reaching out to the cyber community....I'm still a little timid about relpying to posts or figuring out how to do something properly, but I consider myself a techie work in progress LOL.

don't be shy...that's how we learn. Play with the site and it gets easier. Best of luck this week with your liquids. You'll probably think you will lose your mind by day 5 but you will make it. time passes, it's a guarantee. If you need creative ideas this is the place to get them. Ask away !!!!!
Good luck, Patsy

Wow, only 1 week of liquids and anything liquid you want. Dr B's patients must do 2 weeks of either meditrim or ensure and water only.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Yes i must say i was wondering about how many pre-op appointments are required as well. I have had seven trips to Moncton: initial visit, information session, consent signing, pre-op visit (blood work etc.). weigh in (to make sure there is a weight loss and shrunken liver), surgery and staples removed. That is seven to date and I should be having another one this month for a fill. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. However, financially it has been a bit of a drain - even if the surgery was paid for and I would have been glad to pay just to have the chance to lose this weight!!!
The Moncton team is great and I appreciate each and every one of them!

Hi,
I had 1 info session, 1 visit to hospital for assessment bloodwork, 1 screening with Diana, the nurse practionner and Janet, the nutritionist, 1 screening with Dr. Vallis, the psychologist and 1 visit with Dr. Ellsmere, the surgeon, for the final OK and any other questions. I'm waiting for the preadmissions call this week. I was told that I met all the criteria. Lost almost 10 lbs, by surgery, I'm down 6 so with this week's liquid diet I'm sure I'll be down that amount, added at least 30 minutes per day of exercise. I have to admit I am quite surprised about how quickly the process has been, particularly after spending time on this site reading people's experience. Dr. Ellsmere did have someone with him during my last visit, I'm wondering if they are planning on increasing the number of surgeries in the future. I asked at my visit with the Diana if they had been affected by the cancellation of surgeries this past winter, due to cutbacks, and she replied, No, things were pretty normal for them. Aslo, when I visit her in March, she projected May or June as my surgery date, provided I met all the criteria, so she seems to be in the loop. I hope this information gives others hope as I do not believe I did anything other than follow their instructions. I am afraid that somehow they'll realize there's been a mistake and yank me from my surgery date, so I'm not considering it done until I wake up from surgery.....keep your fingers crossed for me.
