Venting.......

I am about to cry with deep and consuming jealousy (being honest here) and frustration. I have only lost 10 pounds since surgery.  I think I need to throw the scale away, like Maggie did. I know the fat is going away, but the scales are moving so slowly. I am dropping sizes and inches. I am walking a lot. I have even started parking at WalMart and walking from there to work (about a kilometer), and I walk almost every noon hour for the whole hour plus. AHHHHHHHHHH! I am getting so frustrated with everyone else seems to be  losing weight but me. I belong to a group on another board for people who had surgery in February and their numbers are so much better than mine. Some have lost over 50 pounds. It got so frustrating that I stopped visiting the site.

I think you are doing awesome and I remember reading how you are dropping sizes so you are obviously doing something right!

You were really active before surgery and did you not lose quite a bit on your 2 week liquids..... I believe you did very well on that part.

So this all has affects how quickly you lose - your body is probably still in shock mode - you should chk with some of the lapbanders that are further out and see how many calories they consume vs amount of exercise - you might be surprised to find out you are not consuming enough calories- maybe you need to up the protein.

Are you tracking on one of the online sites like fitday or daily plate to see what you are getting in each day and how many calories you are burning with all your exercise- also chk with the gals at Dr B maybe they have some suggestions on tweaking some things.... but you are probably doing awesome in their books.

Hang in there - I dont think I have seen anyone so prepared for WLS and so motivated- it will happen and the scale will move - I might be putting mine in our yearly neighborhood yard sale so I am not against chucking it!

Chin up & hugs

Charline:

How is your fill? Are you feeling restriction? How many calories are you eating on average? Some people confuse things and don't eat enough.

Dropping sizes and inches is a great thing!

Oh Charline. You really are doing great. I have not lost so much as an inch and I've gained pounds so don't feel so bad...not everyone is doing good. You are following the rules, watching what you eat and walking. So, good on you. You are doing all the right things and at just the right time, the lbs will start dropping too. Once your body adjusts to all the new muscle mass you must definately be gaining. Keep up the great work and try not to get down. You are doing what you're suppose to be doing.

You look great! You look like you've lost a lot of weight since I saw you last December. I would be so frustrated too if the scale wasn't budging. You lost a lot of weight before getting your surgery, so your body may be still in shock, and is trying to hold on to every last calorie. It happens a lot unfortunately when people are 2-3 months out (or so I've been reading on the boards).

Don't give up hope - your body is just probably holding to everything it can right now, and you'll probably get over your stall in a little while. Are you eating enough? If you eat too little, your body will store every last calorie. Remember, you look great!

Charline my dear, I hear you. I had RnY on Feb 12 (three months ago) and I have lost exactly 27 pounds since surgery. Others who had surgery the same time as I did are reporting losses of 50 pounds or more. I know I shoudn't compare but man it sucks. I thought I'd be further along by now. Like you I do see differences in my clothes but I seem to have lost weight off my legs and my poor old boobs have taken a major nose dive. I look like a barrel sitting on 2 hocky sticks. My belly has not gotten smaller at all. Oh My. Good news is that without all the weight loss, I have no hair loss. I think I'd trade hair for fat, given the choice.(for a little while at least)
December  2007 / 293 pounds (higest weight)
Day of surgery  Feb 12 /09 / 251 pounds
Current  weight /  206  pounds
First  Goal 199  (onederland)
Second  Goal / 180  (I'd be happy here if I never lost another pound)
Final  Goal / 140  (final goal, more of a wish)

I really haven't thought too much about not eating enough. As always I am more conscious of every transgression- like there has been "Heavenly Hash" ice cream in the house since Friday and well I have zero resistance to it. It's my heroin. It's going out the door today. I occasionally, track what I eat on "Daily Plate". It is usually, no- almost always, under 1200 calories. Protein? Not sure, as I am not really well "schooled" in how much is in each food. I did get some info from Rinette when I had my fill. I do focus on having it as often as possible. My head knows that I have done well. I have dropped a couple of inches on both my hips and waist. When I started this journey, I could barely walk 1/4 mile, now I can walk miles....for pleasure. I work like a dog for a couple of hours, take a short break then say "What's next?" I was a size 26 last fall. At surgery I was still wearing 26 but could fit most 24. Now I am wearing both sizes 20 and 22. I had a size 13/14 coat on over the weekend and thought it was a size 18, because it almost fit.  My head knows that I am doing well overall. My emotional self is not at all convinced. My weight was up this morning, but I forgot to take my medication yesterday morning- so no fluid pill. AND, of course, I have had ice cream 3 days in a row. (whipping myself as I type- Note to self- call my DH & tell him to take that %^%$^% ice cream to work).  Usually a treat will convince my body that I am not suffering through a famine and I will drop a couple of pounds, but 3 days in a row.......
This is a convoluted journey to say the least. I promised myself that I would drop the perfectionism, so one slip didn't cause me to give up totally, and I am doing pretty good with that. I can slip now & again, and not throw the whole diet out. I am not doing so good with being satisfied with living a healthy life style, and trusting that over time the weight will come off. I can't seem to ignore the day to day weight fluctuations. I guess I am venting again....... I do feel 200% better than I did, but it's not enough to made me happy. I am addicted to the numbers on the scale.
Krista- I was feeling restriction for the first 2 weeks after me fill, but the last week I don't feel it any more. I stick to a cup of food and only seen to have trouble with snacking one in a while....the ice cream thing is not normal for me. I admit that sugar is my main foe in this journey. I cope by not having it around me.
I am a verbal processor....can you tell?

Thanks for all the support girls, I will implement all your suggestions.

Charline,

You are doing well. I know some people on the lapband forum are losing rather quickly, but some doctors are more aggressive with fills and everyone has a different metabolism right? You can join WW with someone and follow the same regimen and not have the same weight loss.

Don’t get discouraged. Re-evaluate what you eat, and take a deep breath. Remember that this surgery is slow weight loss and I think it’s normal that everyone feel this way at one point or another. No matter how much we are warned it is slow weight loss surgery, after the surgery we always expect to lose rather quickly.

Don’t concentrate on that scale so much, go outside and enjoy the weather! Inches and sizes are much more important than pounds!

Stay strong!

You're not alone.  I have dropped 43 in almost 7 months.  that's not exactly stellar.  but I'm still losing and that's all that matters...be it inches or lbs ... doesn't matter.  I think everyone before surgery, expects that this big miracle is going to happen after surgery, but it's only reality.  and Reality is, we can't lose 50 lbs in 10 weeks and be normal.    Normal is 1-2 lbs average per week.  I know you want to see it go faster but we all have to go through the same pain.  You're not alone.  Don't feel alone.  As you get closer to your sweet spot you should see bigger losses I'm sure.  Hang in there.
