Hi everyone has you all know  I had my appt. with the dietician today at the Hospital Dietician clinic.  After that, I met with the nurse and  then Dr. Savoie.  It''s confirmed my operation is scheduled for June 3 2009 YOOOUUUPPPIII!!!  Wow I was really excited and scared but I am ready to concur anything that's in my way!

You need to drink 4 bottle of Boost liquid per day for 2 week before the surgerie and he gave me my presciption for that. If you have insurance you can claim that on your insurance.

I will be admitted in the Hospital on June 3rd which will be the day of my surgerie and you are only being realsed the next day and someone needs to be there with you when you get realsed.  Then I will be on liquid for another 2 weeks and then puree for another 2 weeks.  So bascily no solid food for at least 6 weeks....I am ready to do this so bring it on.

He said that he was sending my files to the hospital here in Fredericton has I need to do a series of test which they call pre-op test and then if everything is ok I am good to go.

I just want to clarify something, I was considered a ideal candidat  as I did not have any problem health wise, no high blood pressure nothing and Dr. S did confirm with me today that he was doing easy cases first.  So that came from the Dr mouth himself.

I'll keep you posted!

Congrats on your surgery date! You must be so excited! I’m excited for you but…

I can’t wait for my turn!

I hope I’ll be called soon because like you, I don’t have very many complications. I have no blood pressure issues, no diabetes, etc. The only thing I have is acid reflux (which is controlled by Nexium) and I’m a little bit asthmatic (also controlled by my inhaler) however, it hasn’t bothered me for at least two years!

I like that you stay at the hospital 24 hours after your surgery. I think being at a hospital is the best environment to be, not only for pain management but any complications which normally arise within the first 24 hours, so I think it’s a good idea.

Being from Moncton, I would not want to turn around and drive to Bathurst if I had a complication right after I got home to recover. Staying at the hospital gives me security that when they release me, they are fairly certain all is 100% ok and that 24 hours have passed so I’m out of the woods.

Concerning the six weeks on liquids and puree, he seems to be adapting Dr. B’s old method. When my friend was banded in 2005, she had to stay 2 weeks on liquids after her surgery. DR. B’s has changed since I believe right? Maybe he is doing this to prevent complications because it’s safer that way. Since he is trying to avoid complications at all costs right now, to keep his patients on liquids longer most likely cuts down on those complications for all those patients who eat foods they are supposed to during the first few weeks.

Either way, even if he does things differently than Dr. B, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong and I think it’s a breath of fresh air to see things done differently.

I think Lap-band surgeons seem to go the way they believe works best. The lapband is a very strange science and no one truly seems to know the right formula yet. Surgeons normally adapt to what works for them best.

I’m looking forward to getting my call. Hearing that itsabouttime got her surgery date is refreshing! I hope I am done by the end of summer!
