First Day on Mixed Liquids

Had my surgery on Tuesday so I am thinking tonight I will take off the bandages and have a SHOWER!!!  Yee Haw!!  Today was my first day on mixed liquids so far I've had apple juice, cranberry juice, cream of chicken soup (strained), clear chicken broth and right now I'm working on a chocolate milk -the chocolate milk just seems to be laying there in a lump - but I will sip away and see what happens.  The shoulder pain was worse yesterday than today - not much at all today and I felt really good this AM - maybe too good - was a little more active today and now I'm feeling a bit sore and tired.  One day at a time I guess!

I can relate to how excited everyone is (I waited almost 5years) I didn't think it would ever happen - but it does and it will for all of you.  I expect Charline will have to up[date that list on a daily basis for a while and that is a wonderful thing!  Thanks so much Charline for doing that for all of us!

I panicked for a minute.  For some reason I was thinking you were talking about mushies.  OH NO !!!!!!!!!!!  But then i read it again and realized what you were saying...good for you...variety is a good thing.  I hope you are feeling good.  Time will fly by now that you are done.
I think about you all the time and hope things progress well.

Glad to hear you are doing so well.
BTW, the medical folks here can correct me if I am wrong, but....the correct  term for clear and opaque liquids is "full fluids" . I told Caroline this but she said that she had never heard that before. Mixed liquids is a direct translation from the correct French terminology.  I bring this up because, if anyone were to go to an anglophone doctor/nurse and say mixed liquids, I don't think they would know what you meant. I think you would have to explain what you meant.

Charline the terminology is clear liquids= any liquid that you can see through. Full fluids or full liquid= any liquid that you can't see through but you can pour (ie.. tomato soup or coffee). Soft is foods that you don't have to chew very much (ie.. mashed potatoes or bananas) . Mechanical soft includes all foods but has been put into a blender to grind to soft. Full diet is of course all foods.

Then of course there is bland, low sodium, cardiac, BRAT, low acid, high pro, high potassium, low potassium, diabetic, diatetic, celiac, kidney and I suppose there are many more that I can't think of right now.

Hope this helps. :)

I knew that a nurse would clarify. I have told the Moncton crew a couple of times but since they have not heard these terms before and I am not a medical professional.....well ......you know

Well regardless of its name I seem to be doing very well with this part of my diet.  so far - 10 days to go!  I am very relieved at this point to have not experienced some of the difficulties that others have had.  The really crazy thing is I thought that 2 weeks on full fluids would be difficult.  As I neared the end of my MediTrim diet all I could think about was how good 1/2 c of HOT cream of chicken would taste!  And now I can't wait to have anything pureed??? Go figure?  I guess my point is that we know each part is just that, "a part" of the overall process to get us where we want to be.  There is always something better ahead with the ultimate being our weight loss.

Also, I removed my bandages and all looks good - a few more piercings than I'm used to perhaps and in places I would never think to put them - but no infections as of yet.  And the shoulder pain... gone.  So unless it can come back at a later date I'm doing just great.  Trying my best to stick to the plan with the BIG goal on the horizon!

I think I'm doing great.  I've tried cream of chicken & tomato soup, plain broth, cold pressed apple cider, chocolate milk, crystal-lite and water - it all stays down.  Feels like it runs right through the stoma into my "big" stomach.  My incisions are healing nicely - getting a bit itchy but I guess that is a good thing.  My only sore spot is where I think my port is located.  I can sleep on my back, right side and almost on my left side.  Shoulder pain is totally gone - lasted only one day.   My stomach still feels a bit swollen - I think.  I have been driving short distances only, 10 - 12 minutes only,  went to Sunday school & church, and I am planning to visit a friend who broke her hip a few weeks ago.  I am concerned about BM's though and while this may be TMI I would like to know how others found this time period in relation to this subject.  I called Moncton and they recommended Senokot.  I haven't tried it yet but will pick up some tomorrow.   I am very constipated and feel like I need a good poo!  Sorry if that is more that you wanted to know.  Other than this I feel like I am doing exceptionally well!

It's good to hear that you are doing fine & no complications except BM's , I would think that would be expected. with the  loss of solid food .    Once you get the senokot you will be fine . Glad that all the pain is gone too.  Keep up the good work.  Keep us posted .
