First day of the rest of my new life
Hey gals,
Just thought I would pop in real quick to thank you all for the prayers, I definetly felt each and everyone of you there with me. Everything went great except for the bad reaction I had to the dilodids (sp?). I was laying there in recover when the nurse looked at me and went to grabe Dr. B. Both of them were standing over me staring, so I asked what was wrong. I guess my face was beat red and they figured I was having a reaction so Dr. B changed my prescription to demerol and checked on me a few more times before I went back to day surgery recovery room. After all that it was clear sailing. I dozed on and off until about 6:15pm then the nurse said that I would be outta there in half an hour, I was ecpecting to have to get up and walk around but nope, nothing.
I'm doing fairly well today, the incision don't bother me at all, its the gas pains in my shoulder that are the killer. I know I have to wait 48 hours to remove the bandages but can I shower right after that or do I have to wait another day?

Hey Jenn, good to hear from you! I guess in the big picture you did pretty good. Rinette said today that the gas pains are the worst part. She said when you stand up the gas rises - hmmm - so what happens if you laid with your head lower than your abdomen. Probably nothing good - just a thought - don't try it without asking someone who knows. This is how I think with low blood pressure

You must be so relieved to have this part behind you - now hang on girly the rollercoaster is gonna begin! But its a good ride! Get ready for all the WOWS!
I had so much shoulder pain after surgery- having hubby or the cute orderly while I was in the hospital massage it really helped or maybe the attention felt good from the cute orderly - no definitely the massage made me feel better and a heating pad on my shoulder when I was back at the hotel. It will pass evenutally
Walkin and sippin thats about it for the first few days!
Congrats welcome to the bench!

Hey Jenn,
Welcome to this side. I showered the day I took the bandages off. I just let the soap run over my incisions, I did not touch them at all and then I let the shower gently rinse them off. I used an antibacterial shower gel from Dial and I did not touch the incisions with my hands ever. The heat from the shower helped ease the shoulder pain a bit.
The shoulder pain is a given, hurts like hell by times and way worse than your incisions. I used a heating pad and walk you have to walk. I walked up and down my hallway as much as I could and that helped to dissipate it. It will go away eventually and I have found during research that it lasts different lengths of time for different people.
Follow the rules with your fluids and foods. The rules are there for a reason, to allow your tummy to heal and get used to living with a foreign body wrapped around it. It will be tough sometimes. The head hunger will drive you crazy now and then but you can do it.
So glad you are doing well, keep us all posted as to your progress.
