How's it going with your food Debbietlc?
Haven't heard from you in a few days. How is it ging with your food? Last we heard yu were going back to puree. Are you still on that or have you advanced to solids yet.
My first real food solid was baked fish. For me,that was a definate no no. Still can't do fish. Too dense I guess. I can tolerate canned food better than realfoodso I do eat quite a bit of beans and other canned stuff but not canned meat.

Hi Maggie,
Food is not going at all. I had to call Rinette yesterday for I had diarrhea since late Monday. I have been on water, I tried chicken broth but I have no desire for anything and trying to ge****er in is a real chore. I am trying to get in as much as possible so I don't get dehydrated. I go to the washroom every 1 1/2 - 2 hrs so what is going in is coming out. I am very weak and lethargic. Rinette told me to drink water, then go to broths/liquids and gradually back up to the plan on schedule but I can't eat. When I tried I got sick. I just hope I'm not dehydrated and this passes very quickly. Everyday I get up I am hoping it is gone and its still here. 4 days of this is a long time as I haven't been this sick since forever.
Thanks for your concern. Debb

I don't know if you remember my post shortly after I was done but I had diarrhea really bad too. Just as soon as i put liquid into my mouth I had to run for the bathroom. It lasted about 3 or 4 days. I was afraid of becoming dehydrated too. You can tell if yu are becming dehydrated by pulling up on a piece of loose skin. If it does not go right back flat again then you are dehydrated. It is called tenting. You pull n some loose skin and it slowly goes back flat. If you start to become dehydrated, go immediately to the emergency room for an I.V. to restore you hydration. You can tell too by how dark your pee is. Real dark pee the colour of steeped tea is a sure sign of dehydration. When do you return to Moncton for staple removal?
I and I think Deb went through something similar. I wish I had known more about this before surgery. It may or may not have affected my decision to have it but I would have known more of what to expect and some idea of how hard this really is and that it would be no cake walk. Everyone says after 3 or 6 months you feel great so I am eargerly awaiting these milestones. It takes a lot of getting accustomed to not being able to eat. It is such a basic need.

An update. I spent the nite in the hospital on IV as I was extremely dehydrated. I do feel a bit better today despite the fact I still have the diarrhea and a bit nauseous at times but I am not as weak as I was. I am back on full liquids (no dairy) for a few days then gradually going back up to where I was.
I get my staples out Thursday April 9th where I will meet with Rinette and discuss this further with her. Lets hope this feeling goes away for I'm looking forward to the honeymoon stage to Maggie.....lol Like we'll ever see that ehhh.....ha ha One can only hope.
Have a great weekend one and all.

Sorry you had to have an I.V. They hurt and suck. I hear you. I spent the first night discharged from Moncton hospital in the Saint John Regional and I spent day three at St. Joe's hospital. It's a real downer to feel so miserable when you want so badly to fell well and to get on with it. I'm waiting for month 3 and month 6. You're supposed to feel real good by that time.
Rinette may have some good suggestions for you regarding eating. She gave me some good advice about things to eat. Funny, I should have thought of them myself but didn't . Sometimes you get so caught up in this you forget the simplest things.
Hope you get that drinking under control. I am still finding it hard to find stuff to drink. Mostly I stick to decaf tea and coffee.

Thanks Maggie for the advice for I never thought of decaf tea. I must get some. I have good news though. I ate some solid foods today and they stayed down. I made a pot of homemade chicken soup with lots of veggies and it went well so far. Andddd the diarrhea is gone. I feel back to myself today. Maybe I did have that bug that was on the go lately along with the dehydration; who knows....anyways I feel good and hope this lasts.
Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. I am

Eating solids and keeping it dpownis good news indeed. Funny how the simplest thigs makes you so happy isn't it. Stuff you wouldn't have given a second thought to 3 months ago. LOL Glad the runs are stopped. That drags you down so quickly. Deb had it and so did I maybe it's a RNY thing. Could be. We have rearranged our innards and maybe this is it's way of getting back. LOL Keep me updated about your eating. I still can't do meat and of course bread and pasta are gone. But by God, I can eat 1 cookie. All is not lost.
