I was doing great  with liquid till I hit the 7-9 day plan.  I was so excited about getting to the 7th day eating plan and couldn't wait till I got there---eggs again....whooo hoooo but when I got there I have been feeling miserable since. I was allowed to have an egg & 1/2 slice of toast with butter and whenever I tried this I would get a pain in my chest to the point I would have to stand up and walk around hopeing it would pass. I also felt like I was going to pass out or couldn't catch my breath--I was quite scared the first time this happened being alone with my 2 kids. When the feeling passed I tried to finish my meal and the same thing happened. The pain was terrible but when it passed after some time. So when it passed yes, I felt great again but I was afraid to eat. I don't know if its because I am not chewing enough or if I'm eating to fast or if its not agreeing with me. When this happened yesterday again the pain was that bad I had to get it up for I felt like I was going to pass out-sweats and pain .  I missed out on a few meals because of this happening and went back to liquid since last nite. I'm thinking maybe its the bread sweeling when its going down?? Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. What am I doing wrong? Is my stomach streaching with the thicker foods? I was wanting variety of foods so I don't get bored but it didn't work out like I wanted it to.

Hi Deb. you know that I have been having trouble eating. I couldn't wait to eat "food" again either but I could not and still cannot eat bread or pasta. I am 6 weeks out and I was trying to follow that booklet diet too but in reality that is more for banding than for Rny I think. It most certainly is not RNY friendly. Sounds like you had dumping. I had that a couple of times so far and it is not pleasant. After dumping on the same foods a couple of times you tend to not want that food anymore. If you google weightlosssurgery then go to the site that has McGill university on it , it has a great way more friendly RNY diet that the one you get from Moncton. It is the site from the Victoria hospital's baratric clinic. That is the one run by Dr. Christeau (sp?) He is the one who trained Dr. B and where Moncton staff trained. I don't know why they don't follow the RNY diet guideline. I will ask Rinette the next time I see her about it. Go to that site and have a look at the diet guide for post RNY. It makes more sense. As for now with eating it is a matter of trial and error. Something you can eat today with no problem, tomorrow you may not be able to tolerate it. Same the other way too. Something you cannot eat today you may eat next week. Forget the bread and the soft cooked pasta. I don't even know why they are there. I am on other RNY sites and the common thread is no bread or bread products and no pasta. That phamplet makes me so mad. Also there is a 7 day eating plan at the back of the book again pure bunk. That is not how RNYers eat. That is more based on band I think. Although even banders cannot eat bread so I don't know who that diet plan is for. Good luck Sweetie and if I can offer any help or advice don't hesitate to ask Deb or me. Deb is further out and has more experience than I.

Don't go to www.  weightloss surgery. com because it takes you somewhere totally different just google weightlosssurgery and it will take you there.

Thank you both for the reply. I can see quite a difference in the meal plan so I am going to go by Dr. Cristou's plan and discuss this with the clinic when I get my staples out on the 9th. I am not going to eat bread any longer as it didn't work for me either. Let you all know how this goes for the next few days. I'm sure I'll see a difference.

Take care, Debbie

Hi Debbie - your post sounds like it could have been written by mee. I SO went through the same thing. I looked forward to that egg and toast day SO much - and it killed me. And to be honest - I haven't really ventured near eggs very much to this day. And bread wasn't something I could tolerate for months - and even now I am very careful with bread. I would never even dream of eating say- a sandwich - just couldn't do it - but a piece of crunchy toast with pb or cheese - I can do now - but it was at least 6 months before I could. Good luck. Take it slow - and by all means if something doesn't go down right - take your time and try it again later.

Are you sure about the egg and toast day is day 7?? On the band it isn't until day 28. I had 2 weeks on full fluids and 2 weeks on  puree. i know that the two are very different but that early surprises me.

You know charline, I think you're right. It does seem to advanceto solids awfully fast. But when you have just had wls and have no clue what to expect you tend to grab written info and hold fast to it and try to follow it to the letter. I don't know what the Montreal hospital post op diet is but I doubt they call for eating bread on day 10-12. The booklet does say 1/2 slice of toast and 1 egg on day 10-12.. I had no problem with eating it, it just didn't want to stay down and I still can't eat bread.  It's the same with cereal for me except cream of wheat and oatmeal. I don't know if cereal will stay down or not, it's too sweet for me to even eat.

Sorry I meant day 10. My day 10 was last Friday and it says the following in the book I was given: Post Gastric Bypass Day 10-12; 1/2 slice of toast/butter, 1 egg & 1/4 cup 2% milk.  I was going right by the book for this is what I was told that works. Well, since my episodes over the weekend I went back to puree liquids and doing better.

Hi,
I notice that generally on this site it seems the RNyers eat early in the game. Or earlier then I.  I was 2 weeks liquid and 2 weeks puree, as I was told this time was needed to let things heal.  Toast...that was months down the road before I tried it, but as it offered no nutritional value, it was a year before I had it in my menu very often.

Go with lilquids and purees for a good long time. It is boring I know..but there is alot of healing going on.

Good luck, and the folks in the RNY sites might be mucyh more help then us folks who didnot have a RNY.

TakeCAre,
C
