So I talked with Mum today...

I told Mum today that I want to get wls, which I had been worrying about for some time. I thought that it could go one of two ways: either she would be supportive or she would be totally against it. Since she has managed to loose and keep weight off through sheer determination, I thought she was more likely to be against wls.

To my utter surprise, she was completely supportive! She said she would make an appointment with my doctor for July (since I'll either be here at school or in Europe between now and then). She was quite surprised when I told her the waiting list is about 5 years here but over all very encouraging! My Mum is my best friend so to have her support means the world!

Like I said, this doesn't have much relevance to anything else and it's not a huge step or anything... but I just had to tell you guys!

I wouldn't say that it isn't a huge step!  I still haven't told my children and I was banded almost a month ago!!   Congrats to you for having the courage and congrats to your Mom for  supporting you!

Oh wow! I completely understand why you may not have said anything but I hope you do (when you feel comfortable, of course!). It feels soo much better to just say it, no matter how they react.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I decided not to tell my children because I already know 2 of them do not approve of WLS and I would prefer they be are proud of me, rather than give the credit to the band (not that I could do it without the band).  Besides, my kids are the food police on steroids!!! They already jump on me if I eat the wrong thing, question if I am allowed this or that, and my portions are scrutinized. They mean well, but I want to kill them at times!! LOL I may tell them someday, but not before I have lost 100 pounds and maintained it for a year or more.
Be careful who you tell, because you can't unring a bell!!  Apparently telling your Mom was a good choice.

That is a huge "nsv" non scale victory we could say as support is so very important at every stage of wls!!

Hopefully the time won't be as long as the 5 years.
